The more expeirenced might know exactly what went wrong,but it looks like the tensioner melted?? you cant see it in the pic but the belt had melted through the plastic cover,so i would have thought it must have been making a hell of a noise?.

Did you have the music up wimm when it happend??

Na Scotty - happened all at once. Thud - whizzzz.
When I pulled over I had noticed that the belt had moeved over a little and melted through the cam cover around the top edge. Couldn't see any further down at the time
