Technical braked aframe

going fit a braked aframe to my qubo next week
as anyone fitted 1 on the qubo
so I can tow it with my motorhome

Never fitted one , have heard whispers of them being banned over here at some point also not sure on their legality on the continent either now

I have used them for over 4 years on an alto and a Suzuki jimny
I only go in the so should be fine
this is not a recovery aframe but a braked type as fitted by towtal or CARATOW

Should be all good then can't see its gunna be a problem then I would keep a spare key in the tow vehicle though the amount of cars I pick up on my spec that lock theirselves with the keys out is un believable
Maybe it will use the same mountings as the bull bar mounts to

I have done recovery for years the ones make me smile that keep locking the car when you are working on it
back to the aframe I do lock the car when its on the back of the motorhome as its 30 feet from me but I do have a spare key . I have an aframe off a 500 that I may have to mod it to fit looks like you take the front cross member off and fit this to it but I will see when I get the front bumper off

So being a braked system do you have to leave the Qubo engine running 24/7 while being towed to keep the servo topped up to enable correct safe braking

no you don't have the engine running
there is a cable to the brake that pulls the brake on the overrun like a trailer
just have the key in on first click to take the lock off and out of gear and hand brake off

But without the engine running the servo isn't operating, so the effectiveness of the brakes is reduced substantially. I suspect this is why there are legality issues with systems like this. I cannot see the braking affect on an servo-ed vehicle without the servo running being anywhere up to standard.

Try rolling your car down a hill with the engine off and braking - is worrying to say the least!

I would say as long as the fulcrum point on the drawbar and cable to pedal was correct it would give a good enough effort and some brakes is better than none

But the point I'm trying to make is some brakes don't necessarily make it legal or safe!

I'm only trying to look out for the OP to make sure they don't become a cropper with the law.

Sounds easier and safer to be using a dedicated vehicle trailer behind the motor home by the sound of things.

More than it sounds like you'll give credit for - just because a farm trailer is covered in mud doesn't mean its not maintained to a legal and safe standard.

Not the case when I worked for an ag engineers thought only usually saw them when stuff fell off

Which makes sense, wouldn't be taking a fully functional vehicle in to be repaired would they

Yeh but bringing when they could tow it not when they have to hang it from the telescopic to bring it in is more preferable ha ha

I can see your point but if you put the hand brake on the a frame it locks the wheels a trailer would be better but its more to tow and more to store
my motorhome is 5 1/4 ton 6 wheeler so will stop a 1300kg qubo
I don't make the system but it works
they are fitted by car a tow / tow tal & others
I have towed an alto and a Suzuki jimny on a aframe and they all tow fine
I have also towed on an inter trade unbraked a frame if you have some thing big to tow it with its fine . I have also towed boats all around the uk on unbraked trailers + the brakes don't work on most boat trailers after you have dipped them in the sea a time or 2

I cant see that working as you would be testing the motorhome brakes as well ??

Would give a rough idea though , I would say having a qubo hung on the back of a 6 legger he isn't really gunna notice it pushing him on anyway
