General Brake Servo problems

Hello, first timer here so excuse me if I go on! Having a bit of a nightmare with my '98 R 1.9td. After a 3 week wait for a brake servo to arrive, the garage now tell me they have to drop the engine to fit it! Told them not to bother (we've had a week of them finding one thing or another). Is this right, or should any decent garage have realised this before ordering a £200 part that can't be sent back!!

Don't really want to part with my Fiat as I've grown rather fond of it.

What garage did you use, a FIAT dealership?

no, didn't use a dealership, the local garage. Didn't realise had such a sophisticated car though!

Had the car almost 3 years and up until now had only minor problems with it and it's done 122k. Would recommend one to anyone. Our old garage which had experience of Ulysses' shutdown, so, living out in the sticks, had few options as to a convient alternative. Now considering moving closer to civilisation!

So, you took it to a garage, they said it was the brake servo - and ordered the part in; did they quote you for fitting it, or is it only now that they realise they can't fit it, unless extra labour costs are incurred?

Personally, I would go to a garage who knows.

we've decided to trade the Fiat in against a newer one, although slightly put off buying a fiat, not because of the problems we've had, but because Fiat have stopped making the Ulysses and obtaining parts can be quite lengthy I've been told.

The new Ulysse is a different model to the old one in most regards.

If you're concerned with Fiat but like the new Ulysse, then the Citroen C8 and Peugeot 807 are essentially the same car. Go with one of those if you really think parts will be an issue.

Personally my family and me all love our 53 plate Ulysse to bits. Tested both the Citroen and the Peugeot but just preferred the Fiat, even though as mentioned it is the same car, (almost)!

It was mentioned earlier that the local Fiat dealer closed. Mine is (was) in Cardiff and has shut down. Fiat going through a tough time? Lead time on parts is always an issue, even brake pads. As with many of you though, love the Ulysee, a great ride.

Apart from certain trim, you can buy the parts from Citroen & Peugeot anyway. I have used them for our 53 plate Ulysse because sometimes they are cheaper anyway.

As the Ulysse is no longer sold in the UK (it is still made though), the price is likely to drop so you may get a bargain.
