Hi, I've changed my ECU due the old one was damaged using fast starter.
Now I have the new ECU (bought used) but correctly the car won't start because the key codes are different.
May somebody help me?
I've heard I can re-program the serial EEPROM on ECU pcb to make the ECU "virgin again" and use so my keys, where can I find this file?
If this not possible, how can I esclude the key code security system?
My ECU is a Bosch Motronic with this codes on ECU enclosure:
0 046 523 496 0

Thanks!

get over to the Coupe forum and send a PM to GrahamL - he can reset the ECU for you - as soon as you plug it back into the car, it will automatically "pair" with your key and will work fine.

he did exactly the same for me after a so-called tuning house fried my ECU when wrongly fitting a Unichip

GrahamL is VERY busy and doesn't get onto the forum very much, so don't expect an immediate reply

Just to clarify, I do not change the program data in ecu to bypass immo.
What I do is to change ecu back to virgin so that a matching key/immo system will re-initialse ecu to new car. i.e. car and electronics back to original configuration. There are plenty of people who go the immo off route.

To virginise this particular ecu the eeprom is wholly erased (0FFh). then when it is introduced to car it will mate up.

presumably then thats the same as i have had done?

i was told to disconnect the CODE box before refitting the ECU.....

i assume this just stops it mating with anything....

Bulldog- You have had a re-coded chip put in. The reason why the code box is disconnected is to put out the key code light.

Re-writing the eeprom can be as simple as cutting the old one out and soldering a new one in, just a few pounds.

Bluepunto2- have not got into mk2 yet its a different system and more complicated with the BSI unit.
