hi guys,

my wife owns a 500 1.3D multijet sport.
The problem we have is that the boot won't open by using either the button on the keyfob or by using the boot handle.
I have read up on common faults and decided to replace the boot handle (because the micro switch fault appears to be quite common).
Unfortunately this did not resolve the issue.
Logic made me think that the problem may be the actual locking mechanism so I replaced that as well, however this again made no difference.

pressing the button on the keyfob does make the indicators flash twice as it should, but it doesn't unlock the boot.

Does any of you guys have an idea where to look?

Thanks for reading

Martin

Hello and welcome.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties.

You could be suffering from the dreaded 'hatch wiring fault'.

First read this thread.

To check your own car, I suggest you do the following:

1. Open the bonnet and disconnect the battery quick release. If you do have wiring damage, even just inspecting the loom could cause further problems if the electrics are live.

2. Open the hatchback using the emergency release button inside the car (instructions are in the handbook if you need them).

3. Peel back the grommet where it enters the hatch (you can leave the end where it connects to the body).

4. Push the grommet back along the cable & keep unwrapping until you get to the wires. If you do have this problem, it'll be obvious at this point.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
I will follow your suggestion if and when we find the handbook (with the radio code, because to my wife the radio is more important then the boot)

cheers

Martin

You don't need the radio code.
The code is held by the car computer, so if you disconnect the battery and then later reconnect, the radio is in effect "self-coding".

It's only if you fit a new radio that you have to put in the code.

I fitted a new battery to our Clio a week or two ago and I had to input the radio code, but with a Fiat 500 you don't need to at all because it's automatic.

Good luck,
Mick.

I'd put very good money on it being this.
