Sub at the side, facing from left to right, amp in the space near the sub, if you have mdf do a slope for the amp and leave like 2cm from the bottom. Put a neon under the amp so that lights will seap throught the 2cm spacing, maybe another neon on the bottom of the parcel shelf between the speakers.

How about mounting the sub on one side, but at a jaunty angle (kinda up and out) and the amp in the same way on the otherside? Might give good spare access too.

Mount the neon under the lock mechanism on the back panel, that way it'll be out of sight but should still light up all the boot. Trim it out in black, that way the "JL" and amp should be picked out well, with perhaps a logo (Arbarth or Fiat Forum) on the back seat.

And get rid of the shopping! :D

If you have breakdown cover, or you just don't care about your spare wheel,
Use the MDF to make a mounting/support for the sub 2 sit inside the spare wheel well, (you'll need to dyna mat the entire boot floor for it 2 sound crisp) and build up some panels to go from the parcel shelf supports to the wheel arch/boot floor. Put the amp in one of these, and a power cap in the other side.

If you recess the sub a bit you could buy some perspex, drill a few holes in it for venting and still have a usable boot. Plus it'll help hide all the cables and look trick as hell

Jon.

take out the spare wheel turn the sub upside down put it upside down in you well for the spare so that its flush with the oroginal floor, nice carpet colour to match the car! above you wheel arch build a bracket to hold your amp(on the left hand side) and a bracket to hold crossovers on the right hand side carpet them the same colour! will look the part (y)

AND you can still use your boot :)
