Hello, I have a 2014 fiat Punto evo. Today I went to close the boot and it didn’t lock as it normally would. Every time I slammed it shut I would be able to open it again even if I pressed the lock button on my keys. I have had to zip tie the boot closed until I find a solution, could anyone help/guide me for what this could be? I don’t know if it’s an electrical fault, or if the latch has broken? I just know that when I push the latch in with a screwdriver it doesn’t stay locked, it pops back out. I hope someone can tell me what the problem is, thank you.

Also, when I press the fiat button it does not make the opening sound.

Give the wiring above the hatch a bit of a wiggle and see if you can get it to work, if so then you’ve got a broken wire inside the rubber boot. Common problem for lots of makes, not just Fiats!

Thanks, I opened the but where the wires come through and seen that some of them are cracked and one was taped with electrical tape, so looks like someone has been in there before, also I took the hatch off and it still has the problem of not locking, so I think maybe the problem is the hatch. I know that the electrical works because when I push the latch while it’s plugged in the boot light turns off, when I release it turns on, but it doesn’t stay locked even when it’s not plugged in. I don’t even know anymore, I’ll give the wires a few wiggles and see I guess.

Sounds like one of my jobs with the electrical tape, any butt connectors in there??? 😆 Possibility wiring could be the issue although as you said, if it won’t latch even when unplugged it could be the latch given up the ghost. Bet you could get a used one off fleebay for next to nothing if so

Haha😂 Yeah I think I’ll start off by buying a new latch and see from there.

I could be way off the mark here but I once had this issue where my Punto's boot wasn't latching and it was having to be slammed shut and then hard to open and it turned out to be this plastic part pictured, it was really loose, once tightened, all the problems stopped.

Thanks for the reply, I wish that was the problem haha. I checked and I’m pretty sure it aligns, the knob thing is tight too.
