My 2013 500 TwinAir Lounge picked up a screw in the right rear tyre. Before removing it (always wise!) I took it to a tyre shop for them to do a plug repair and, coincidentally, they do a simple 'health check' on every car entering their shop. (Yes I know - looking for more business!)
The mechanic came back with good news - the screw had not penetrated the tyre so there was no puncture but, the 'bad news' (he said) was that the exhaust was blowing and invited me to inspect the underside of the car on their lift.
True enough the central main silencer (muffler?) was blowing strongly through a small hole in the bottom of the forward face of the silencer, something I did not expect on a car with only 1250 miles on the clock from new. I've known other cars with an exhaust leak of this magnitude to fail their annual UK MoT inspection. When I inspected it, it was clear that the hole was 'manufactured', not the result of damage or corrosion. The boss of the tyre shop then told me that the hole was in fact a drain hole because of the forward sloping attitude of the silencer so that water condensate can drain out instead of lying in the bottom of the silencer to promote corrosion.
Has any other owner noticed this feature on their 500?
