It used to be my trick to take the HT lead with me wherever I went!
I just go with having a car with a carb and manual choke, most idiots (including me sometimes ) can't get her started before you'd attract attention.Remove the fuse for the fuel pump when leaving the car. Makes it impossible to drive away at the very least
There's a brand new complete lockset on EBay

He's got loads of Panda goodies for sale I think.
security has always been a problem with older cars, my uno was broken into by folding the top of the door frame (had a crooklock on so only took the radio cassette), the cinq was entered by a screwdrive through the middle of the door skin and the central locking activated, a cd player went that time.
My old boss never locked his cars, reckoned it caused less damage, though he did fit a false ignition to his transit van after the steering lock and ignition had been broken twice - a hidden immobiliser saved it from being driven off though.
Personally imo the best protection for any car is a lock up garage - certainly when I get one worth nicking it'll go in the garage!
Maybe we should have stickers made -
"This car is unlocked, please feel free to take the sweet that has glued itself to the passenger door bin, a half empty can of deicer, 15p in coppers from behind the back seat and my 2 watt stereo (so I can get another off the insurance). Oh and if you can start the car without the key you are doing a better job than me with it!"
