General Blackjack TA or 1.2 Sport???

After doing some research I've been warned off the matte black, two paint specialists I contacted both said that its near impossibe to blend in the paint correctly so any damage repairs would neccesiate repainting a large section of the car and even then it probably wouldent match the remaining section. This would also be expensive due to the techniques required and the fact you have to paint a large area, having spent the money the chances are the car would still look like a dogs dinner and probably not a lot better then it did beforehand - so the experts tell me anyway!

Good to get closure on the BJ - at least you can 'park' that one. I've been surprised at some of the adverse re-action on the FF to the matte black - but at least it's honest feedback.

I saw the BJ the other day and man it does look very nice. If you can live with the special cleaning of the car then the BJ is awesome. I would also not go for the 1.2 as the twinair is just for me that is a better sound and more fun to drive.

Enjoy and let us know

My concern would be that it might not look quite so awesome by the time it came to resell it, and given the cost & difficulty of restoring the finish, longer term the most awesome feature of the BJ may be its depreciation.

Very true... but you can now get allot of products out there so you can do most of the cleaning at home. It is a bit more effort. But if you dont want effort dont get the BJ. Some people like something special and it does not matter about the resell and other people just want it to have the best resell. Personally I would love one but then I dont want the hassle. So I got the normal paint.

Pretty much nailed it there. With a normal 500 you can handle a few chips and scratches, with the BJ that's the whole point of it.

Given that a BJ's paint is more difficult/expensive to repair, has anyone compared insurance quotes?

Colour doesn't affect insurance quotes. Pearlescent white (FW), Ragamuffin (this is also pearlescent) is technically more difficult to paint than Matt(e) paint. The guy who worked on mine did have to 'blow' the whole side of the car in to get a match. My insurance quote on the FW & the Metallic Black was the same. Would expect that BJ wouldn't be any different.

I wonder how much more difficult it would be to get the glittery white & glittery black to match on the Gucci models ? These models may attract an additional premium on the insurance.

Not sure, I'm stewing on it! Either way I'll wait for the Sport to appear and check it out in the flesh and see what kind of a deal I can get. Michael what did you think of that PM I sent you yesterday or did you get it?

Just out of curiosity, have you two ever met up? You live close enough so you should really meet up :) I've met loads of people from forums and only once or twice found myself in the company of someone I didn't really want to be around.

No, I think we live in different parts of town! Maxi on a clear day I can see the peaks of Snowdonia from my house, maybe we could all meet up in the middle of the Irish sea someday!

Still no excuse! I travelled from Australia to Finland to meet some people from a forum once! :p

On a good day I can pick up RTE on the 500's radio!

The story continues............I have now been offered a brand new Blackjack TA at a discounted price via a garage in N.Irl for pretty much the same price as a 1.2 Sport even including the duty on the BJ. So the latest choice is a brand new BJ TA or a brand new 1.2 Sport in Electroclash, red leather, chrome mirrors and side rubbing strip. Thoughts please!
