So there is this black stuff which is a bitch to try to get off - its hard but flexible if that makes sense, really stuck on to the car and just wont budge. All the glue from the adhesive is gone now just these there on the doors.. Anyone got any idea how to get these off? tried a heat gun, petrol, wd40 but no luck

thanks

I'm guessing you used the internet/this forum to find out how to remove the rub strips. Now I'm 99% sure wherever you found out that information it also told you about the "black stuff" underneath them.

If not then I'm sure one of the 100+ threads people have made that are nearly exactly the same as this one would of explained all.....

I've checked several threads on removing side strips and not read anything about this stuff.

who died an made you the person to tell people what to post, leave him alone

No I'm just intrigued! I would happily admit I'm wrong on this one.

I just fine it very hard to believe someone posted up tips on removing rub strips and stopped half way through. Its like telling someone how to make tea and only getting as far as putting the tea bag in the mug.

For example, the thread Dave posted

Step 2

use the fishing line in between the door and the plastic bumper strip and pull back an forth. Lever the strip SLOWLY until it starts to part with the door. Get a grip of the strip with your hands and pull at it SLOWLY. I cannot advise how much better it is to do this slowly, if you rush this part the adhesive will be stuck to door and it will take forever to get off!

This is what you will be left with if you take is off slowly... just a bit of dirt.

It says nothing about black stuff on there just the adhesive.

Is that the end of that guide then? Or does it carry on to say:

Just clean the dirt and its done! but if you rush it you will be left with a sticky adhesive strip...

To get the adhesive off just spary it with WD40 and leave to set for 5-10mins, then you should be able to scrap the adhesive off with your nails.

And thats it! Job Done!

Maybe you need to read my thread instead of having a go at me.

I said I tried WD40

I said I removed all the adhesive

Where in that guide does it mention the black silicon type stuff?

Check out "How Clean is your House" Channel 4 website.
I'm sure Kim Woodburn would get it off!
Probably use margarine or some old wives remidy?
