Hi all - I'm shopping around for insurance and I think I'm going to get a black box device fitted in my car, to get an affordable quote. I don't like the idea of being restricted - I don't really drive at night much, but tbh I want to be able to without having to worry. I know www.ingenie.com installs a device and don't do curfews - are there any others i should know about before i go ahead? Please share your wisdom :worship:

http://www.insurethebox.com/ ? my daughter has been looking at this one, will cost her about 700 a year instead of 1500 she has been getting quoted for a fiat idea

any cons?

Good job I'm in a reasonable mood Dave. :p

They're a bunch of to&&ers on the phone to talk to.

When my car went into Fiat the first time they covered me on a curtosy car.

Second time it was going to go into Fiat they wouldn't cover me..

My policy had 'changed'.

They think that:

1. Registration Mark of Vehicle
a. PC56 DOM
b. any motor car which is loaned or hired to the Policyholder under the insurethebox Approved Repair Scheme or by a member of the Motor Trade while the vehicle specified above is in the custody of the Motor Trade for service, repair or MOT.

That means that I can drive my car or a car loaned to me by them if I have a crash.

I have a 'legal woman' and she says that's a load of b***ocks.

They also think that:

5. Persons or classes of persons entitled to drive
Those specified below, provided that the person driving holds a valid licence to drive the vehicle or has held and is not disqualified for holding or obtaining such a licence.
Mr Dominic Booth

Means that I'm allowed to drive my car, and so is the garage.

Legal woman also said that's a second load of b***ocks.

You risen it higher with them Dom - Like you say they're wrong and your legal woman is indeed correct (y)

Its worrying that such incompident knobs work within the field of indemnification!

Uuuurm, that is the case with many many insurers. There are probably less insurers that will allow you to drive a courtesy car whilst having mechanical repairs than those that wont.
Often you are driving on the Dealerships insurance, unless you are under 25 and you will have to pay to insure the car for a week or 2 (minimum time scale) on your own insurance.

If insure the box want a garage to be able to drive your car on their insurance thats fine. You can still make sure that they dont do that of course. This will probably be due to their installers having to run the engine during the testing stage. Technically if you are in the car with the keys in the ignition then you are in charge of the car (by Law) so therefore they need to be insured on that vehicle. (y)

But the policy says I can drive a curtosy car while mine is with the motor trade for service/repair/mot. But they say I can't.

And I'm 18 btw.

Are you reading the latest policy though?

He's reading 'his' policy. Those are the T&C's and level of cover provided for the term of cover, they cannot be changed mid term without this being confirmed in writing, with a valid reason as to why.

Dom, I'd be writing into their complants dept followed with a letter to FSA / ombidman. Rediculos what they're saying!
