Hello everyone, I’m a newbie to both this site and my first Fiat. I’ve had many many cars in my time but I gotta say so far I’m just loving my little 2014 Fiat 500.
However, in order to stay legal, I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a good phone holder that doesn’t block the air vent. I was looking at the cd tray magnetic ones but not sure how well they work. Any recommendations would be very welcomed.
Thank you all in advance x

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The best advice I can give you is to turn the phone off before starting the engine, place it somewhere out of reach, and don't turn it on again until you reach your destination.

If you're involved in a serious accident, the police will go through your phone with a fine tooth comb, looking for anything they can use as evidence you might have been distracted. If the accident results in a death, and you were making a hands free call at the time, there's a good chance you'll be going to prison.

In my opinion, making or taking a call whilst driving just isn't worth the risk.

Thanks all, but saddened the initial reaction is that you assume I want to use it for ways that may distract me. The reason I asked about a cd one is because ones that stick on the window restrict
your view. I have a feeling they’re illegal (I haven’t checked this though). I should’ve mentioned My Fiat has Blue&me for calls. Although Im not that keen on talking on the phone while driving even through Bluetooth so try to avoid it. I didn’t think I needed to go this far into detail. But here we are… :(
I totally agree with what you’re saying but I use it as a sat nav. I have no interaction with it, I just need to be able to see it but make sure it’s secure so it doesn’t cause a distraction.
So please take this question as a sat nav holder, just a phone shaped one.

IIRC they're only illegal if they block or restrict your view.

My concern about CD tray holders would be whether long term use might cause damage to the head unit.

We had a holder on my wife's car that fitted into the CD slot. It was actually used for a satnav which was probably heavier than most phones and it performed alright for several years. It was removed when the car was sold and there was no damage to the player. Of course you can't play CD's. It also blocked access to the hazard light switch.

Personally I won't use any mount that involves a rubber suction cup on the windscreen - they look ugly and always fall off eventually - nor do I like hanging things off the vents, other than a small air-freshener. The two dashcams are fixed with permanent 3M tape but they're at the top of the 'screen out of the line of sight.

Sitting on your phone is a good way to crack the screen. Mine remains tucked in shirt pocket and connected to Blue&Me and I never take it out. In this part of the world it's not illegal to make or take calls handsfree but it is illegal to even touch a phone while the ignition's on.

I am using a suction cup holder fixed to the plastic panel on the passenger side (next to the flower vase:D).
Works fine, just falls off every now and then, probably when weather changes to low pressure. Then I give it a good lick and put it back on.

You’ve probably got it sorted by now, but check out the Aussie site “Quadlock” - I have a quadlock case on my phone, and a small round disc attached on the dash beside the Hazard button.

I just got a nice one for my daughters car, the typical windscreen sucker has like a sticky soft gel pad on it which allows it to be be stuck on the dashboard, easily removed and leaves no mess, gives much better placement options (Arteck - got off amazon for about £8)
