Hi

i have read through a couple of threads but still cant decide what induction kit is best
GSR
or some ford focus one

anyone got any of the above that they would recomend

thanks
chris

Now these questions we don't mind answering. It's the ones that post a link to a 33p induction kit from ebay that rolls our eyes.

It would indeed be the GSR kit (available here) that is the best since this was custom designed for the Punto. The Focus kit is good, but you asked for the best.

as mike said, if yo have the money to do so then go for the gsr.
but if like me, budget is tight then the ford focus one is nice and greatly improves the engine note. here's a ford focus kit that will fit if you have a mk2 punto( i can see from your picture you do)...http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/98-04-FORD-FOCUS-MK1-1-8L-2-0L-16V-AIR-INDUCTION-KIT_W0QQitemZ400051437973QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item5d24ec8195&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1121%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A4%7C294%3A50
but just so you know either will impact your fuel comsumption, im averaging 34.5mpg with my focus induction kit.
dont even bother with k&n, they suck in hot air.

No.

You've been told.

GSR is best.
Then focus.

If you have a sporting there is no worthwhile alternative to the GSR kit.

ok wicked thanks peeps

proberly save up for a gsr tho

does it improve power/speed as im gettin an exhaust soon and not realy bothered if the induction kit is noisey or not

ok thanks. wat about k&n

Shhh! That's a swear word in these forums.

The fact is that K&N filters are actually very decent, they last long between cleans, they last long in general, they have a good air flow and OEM approved levels of protection for the engine.

However, it is the design of K&N induction kits that is the real let down. Most have a pipe straight off the carb body, bending slightly forwards and then placing the cone filter slap-bang on top of the hot engine head, giving hot air. Induction kits should be providing cold, dense, oxygen-rich air to the engine. Look at the GSR kit pictures and see how the pipes are bent such that the filter is in a cold part of the engine bay. This will bring you true improvements.

A GSR kit on its own will get you an extra 10% power and torque (depending on your model). However, I would hold you horses a little bit if you are considering an exhaust. If you get a quality exhaust, like Supersprint, you can order the GSR induction kit as part of a GSR remap. GSR will take your car and tune it to get the best out of the induction/exhaust combination, which will give noticeable gains.

Regarding this comment, is there much gain overall if you have a sporting and are contemplating getting a induction kit? I guess what im asking is, is it worth while in the first place?

Also i read some one stating their MPG, what kinda loss are you looking at when u buy one? Im currently running at 39 mpg 1.2 sporting

I have one on my JTD, the quality of the kits are second to none and are well worth the cost.

As said Peter is very busy and runs the company single handedly, but he is a top bloke and very helpful. Just make sure you can 100% buy the kit once you order as he doesn't keep a stock of kits so it will be made to order.

Obviously being a small business people messing him around ordering kits and not buying them cocks things up a bit :)
