Technical Battery Light on

My battery light came on on my Fiat Idea 1.4 Dynamic 53 plate (04) on Fri didn't give it too much thought as it's a new battery then when i parked to go shopping then came out and started car there was no power steering, had to get car towed home, was told by breakdown co that my alternator not charging battery when checked it was charging at 12.04 volts, i am away to order an alternator on Mon but after reading some other things on Fiats there seems to be a problem with alternator tension belt bolt which could also cause loss of power steering and battery light coming on, there was no msg on dashboard reg power steering only the battery light being on, it didn't start on Thur night just turned over lots of times then when i tried again it was fine, tried starting it today and no battery light on and steering fine??? has anyone else encountered anything like this? car is a nightmare in the year i've bought it it's had 3 electrical faults (all different) and a broken spring, now this!:bang: Any info appreciated

UPDATE
Got alternator tensioner belt checked yesterday which was fine, before this was done i started car, started first time no problem, no battery light on and power steering normal?? Took it out for a drive last night and all was well, don't want to fork out £150 on an alternator if this not the problem so going to use it over the next few days and see if problem occurs again, how strange!!
