I am about to replace the tyres on my 1997 Barchetta which has the Fiat alloy wheels fitted.
The current Tyres are Pirelli 195/55 V 15
Any recommendations as to manufacturer.

Best Regards,

Phil

look out for avon zv1 m8 they are a soft compound tyre to start but the more milage u do the harder the compound plus they are cheaper than pirelli

Ive just changed my 2 front tyres. I had Pirelli on before and put yokohama they seem to be have roughly the same good grip and they cost a little less then pirelli also. (y)

A big surprise was a set of Nankang ultra sport NS 2 tyres, I was given a set as a gift from my father about 4 months ago now and I have to say, I am well chuffed with them!! The grip is good and the car feels planted when cornering. I don’t know what the life of the tyre is like yet but I will let you all know in time. Would I put them on my car again, YEP I would as long as the life of the tyre is not to short.

Toyo proxes T1-R. Without a doubt.

Hmmm... I put a set of these on my previous car, and whilst I agree they are grippy and quiet, they only lasted 15k miles versus 40k on the previous set of Pirelli's.

False economy methinks.

The What Car? tyre survey put Vredesteins at the top of the heap... I'm going to be seeking out a set of those when the time comes.

I also like Bridgestone RE-720, I am not keen on Nankang, i used them on an Alfa 146Ti and the grip in the wet was awful.

Tyre choice is a compromise between expected life and performance. I don't think there's a tyre that gives both. Pirelli tyres are soft and grippy and give good performance for people who enjoy standing starts at traffic lights. But if you drive this way your Pirelli's won't last a year. By contrast, Goodyear or Michelin tyres won't match Pirelli's for grip but will last up to two years.

Most importantly, it is important to shop around. The same tyres vary greatly in cost across dealers so avoid going to kwik fit and getting shafted when you can go to somewhere like merityre and get the same tyres for far less.

grip is absolute grip before the slide
dry and wet reffer to the handling depending on the road condition

*these are from my experience. These are all the tyres I have had personaly and the evaluation is purelly MINE.

Good luck!

Like one of our collegues said before; tires are always a compromise.
On of the biggest is, that in the given size there are hardly any to none
in the UltraHighPerformance range.

Had Pirelli p6000 once on an AR147 where they were a big improvement over the Micheling Pilot Sport.
Did not like the p6000 much on the barchetta, though.
Last Saturday changed '195/55/15' 'cupped' Pirelli p6000 for new Bridgestone Turanza RE300.

According to reviews good grip in wet and dry, low rolling resistance, low noise, fair life-span. Rim-protection. Directional and a-symmetric profile.
The a-symmetric profile is a good match with the agility of the barc.

Upto now very pleased with them.
