General Barchetta Bonnet release cable

Hi all bonnet release cable , mine was solid and I put 3 in 1 oil down it by means of a tape funnel. At handle end it seems to move in but is solid to pull out, at catch end it can be pushed in. Is there some sort of spring inside the outer cover to help it return or is it simply a wire inside the cover? Thank for any advice.

It is simple wire inside the cover. There is a spring in lock mechanism, what pulls wire back.
