banging noise when in gear but not pressuse on the accelerator

I have a punto 1995 cabriolet 1600 elx. I have noticed that there is a banging noise coming from the front of the car when the clutch is engaged but no pressure on the accelerator' You can rev the car in netral and no noise but when cluth is engaged and if you freewheel then there is a knocking noise. Has anyone any ides what this could be. A new clutch was fitted 2 thousand miles ago. thanks angie
