banging and knocking

anyone heard of knocking noise coming tru the inlet manifold in time with the firing stroke.car idle ok but soon as foot down backfires and cuts out.no power also.timing ok.no oil use.

Cam timing is probably out.

it came on gradually so not cam timing.it got worse over two days driving,weird....ta for reply
