Right so my internet connection has been terrible of late. When I moved in to the house in June we were getting about 3MB dowload.

This then went up to 5MB and stayed around tht for a few months.

Over the last month it has started to go down:confused: went down and settled at 1.5MB for a few weeks which was painful.

Today I am using it and and getting 288 Kbps:eek: and it aint moving

Have ISP's started capping people that download too much or are they just being sh*t?

Have reset the router and tried leaving it off for a while. Also done port forwarding which didn't help(n)

do you do all your speed tests around the same time

it could be capping but it could depend on whos doing what and when and how many people are doing it in your area

many reasons really

Your ISP will have a "Fair Use" policy if you have a so called "unlimited" connection, which is actually nothing of the sort. Mine is "unlimited" until I hit 100GB a month (easy when when of the 'net users is streaming TV programs or playing on-line games all bloody day and night). Then I'm limited to 1Mbit at peak times until that month is over.

Check the small print on your ISPs web site for the "Fair Use" policy and how they enforce it.

EDIT: Just noticed your ISP is BT. Snap. In that case you will be subject to the same restrictions as me but to be fair to BT they do e-mail you to let you know before you reach your monthly limit. If you haven't had an e-mail you may have another issue. Perhaps BT are upgrading your local exchange. That might have a temporary effect.

No my dad works for BT and gets it for free so I am guessing it's unlmited plus I have downloaded abot 2GB this month at most.

No one is doing anything I am the only one in the house!....

Don't want to sound like a c*nt here but have worked in IT for 3 years so can we skip the first line support on this one guys as I have done it all:p

Tried rebooting router (I assume you did lol)?. My router did something daft at weekend and sync'd at 980kbits normally about 6000. Reboot fixed it but only after being left offline for 10mins.

Also I assume you've done the "remove Bell Wire" trick to reduce the line noise? (remove all pairs except Blue and White/Blue. Also it maybe be a DSL Filter on the blink allowing your phones to dick with your sync speeds.
