Sure. So I don't get the point -- either the material will be some sort of 304 rubbish or worse (easy and cheapo to manufacture) or something decent. If it's rubbish it'll start rusting and etc. as soon as it sees some salt and cat heat, regardless of whether it's welded or not.

Generally rust on SS exhausts is due to "specialist exhaust manufacturers" using mild steel wire to join otherwise adequate grades of stainless together. They should be lynched.

Agreed they like to penny pinch mild steel roll £30 stainless roll £160 (correct grade) they also don't seem to tig as much or remove weld penetration there's lots of other bits that I've seen from a local place that's appalled me ps 304L is right to use its the 409 (I think) that's magnetic that's crap. Cats when correctly done don't loose power or sound the sports ones have a different core structure making them flow better.

304 is fine for exhausts -- the Americans are even using high tensile aluminium, but unless anodised, I'd be very worried about road salt!

For n/a manifolds it's adequate, although look at any supersprint mani and it's generally not looking very pretty.

For turbo manifolds it's not really thought good enough. Never measured cat temperatures, but I'd guess they're bang in the region where carbide precipitation occurs.
