Technical Axle snap

My '70 500l has developed a wicked snap when changing gears up. I've had it 22 years, drive it about 100 km a year, and am the second owner since new. I imported it myself from Torino. How big a job to repair? I seem to read a difference between 500 and 500 L in some of the threads

Can you describe the problem more fully?

Is the noise from the gearbox itself or is the gear stick joltibg when you change gear?

The 500L is a later version of the car with luxuries like a fuel guage!

When I let the clutch out and the car begins to move. then it seems to slip and makes a 'snap' . revs a bit and moves on, same for all shifts up, most (95%) of the time. Does not seem to do it on downshifts.

Sounds like a problem with the clutch. Is the bite point low to the floor on your clutch pedal?

Clutch lets out normally,and the snap is not all the time. Doesn't appear to be use related ( burn off oil on the disc). does not happen in reverse or on downshifts. Motor mounts replaced. There is a shop in the area with a mechanic from Palermo, I'll ask him to test drive it.

I was thinking engine mounts, but if they have been replaced......
