I have a Fiat 500 with Blue&Me and an iPhone 3GS, but when I connect the iPhone to the USB port in my Fiat, it doesn't work because my iPhone is Mac formatted.

So I was wondering if it's possible to have an auxiliary channel on my Fiat stereo so I can connect the iPhone's audio output to speaker system in my car ... ?

Thanks in advance

Wait for the official UK update for the B&M system it is supposed to have much better Iphone/Itouch support although it may still need to be PC formatted, some details are in the B&M section atm.

Yet again Fiat prove they know sweet **** all about their target market. Nog only is the 500 not properly iPod compatible (which is, quite frankly, a joke in 2009) but they then want us to pay £70 for a bit of plastic with some software on it? No wonder they came bottom of the JD survey.

A bit harsh Lloyd!

Personally I have no interest in iPods or endless music catalogues and if I did I'd just use a £3.99 Tesco USB drive - which no-one would want to knick either.

It's 2009, not having iPod Compatability from the start is a joke really. You even get it on most small, cheap cars these days. Or at least a simple aux in port wouldn't have hurt.

But that's just it, "most cars" have exactly that - a line-in port. The Fiat has so much more, it's just a not a logical comparison.

Since the Fiat has the playing hardware it only needs the memory device, the USB obviously - perhaps I'm missing something but what more would an iPod give?

The Fiat's entire system is based on Windows Mobile, I'm not sure Apple have any competing product anyway.

An iPod would give a much more logical interface, bigger storage, and give people the ability to watch films with the sound playing through the stereo if they wanted. A simple aux in would have done it, but they want us to pay £70 instead. Seems a bit unfair to me. Even if the iPod is directly competing with Windows Mobile an aux in wouldn't have compromised this.

Come on, how much more would it have cost them to put a teeny little Aux In port on the front of the stereo? It would also enable people to connect their phones and any MP3 player would work.

Adding complete iPod support would have meant licencing fees. Even if it's only lets say £5 for each car that ads up when you consider how many B&M cars are around.

TBF that is a good point BUT it is of course not legal to use a hand-held device whilst driving anyway...

...and give people the ability to watch films with the sound playing through the stereo if they wanted

I really doubt films were even on the list!!!

Can't please all of the people all of the time, as is said.

I never get the whole I want to control my iPod with my iPod.

I used to use my iPod in the wifes Subaru with a cassette adaptor and all you can really do safely whilst the car is moving is press to go forward and back, doing anything else like choosing an artist or changing playlists is to take your life in your hands (n) You wouldn't text while driving would you?

As for watching films, I really don't get that. Who is going to want to drive a car where the passenger is watching a movie which they can't see yet they can hear?

I liked the iPod support the Pioneer deck I had in my 406 had but to be honest when I plugged my iPod in and used the head unit to control it I may as well have had any make of MP3 player.

Just to clarify: there's no such thing as a Mac or PC formatted iPhone or iPod Touch. This only applied to 'classic' iPods (classic, video, nano, etc).

Hello All,

having ben a Mac user for years and ipod since day one, I too was peeved at the lack of ipod touch support. However, the problem is that the ipod touch/iphone is actually a small Mac computer under the skin and getting Macs and PC's to connect may have been overcome in the Desktop/Laptop world but in a car I could see how it would still create problems. Blue & Me is Windows based, Ipod touch/iPhones are Mac based. This shouldn't affect ipods other than the touch tho'... alternatively buy an itrip or just a 16GB Pen drive... about £20 these days. Although my Blue&Me insists on skipping and ignoring tracks, even tho' they are all mp3's... no taste!!!:p
