hello thinking about buying a seceinto for autosolo (all forward motioning autotesting) one of the lads i know had one and it was very competitive. i was just wondering what mods to do to make it as competitive as possible. i have a seciento lined up. i know basic mods like lowering 60 mm, pollybush kit, camber, front upper and lower struts and rear upper strut. i also plan to raise the rpm limiter 1000 rpm which means it will have to be remapped. is there any other mods that could be done to make the car as competitive as possible. thanks for your time

Hi Daniel

I use mine for autotesting and its great fun

The only mod I have done is fit a set of yokohama A539's i bought off LeCook and it was transformed into a much better beast

All the mods you are talking about will improve your performance but i think the minis and micras will still prove difficult to beat, hence ive bought a micra, ive heard theres a 1000cc or less class coming in soon so a 998 16v micra would be the way to go for me

Where do you live? Cannock and district car club are doing their easter bunny PCA this sunday at curborough sprint course near lichfield and there are 2 of us seicento drivers competing in a massive entry of 60

You could come and have a look and see how we do - pay a pound for a days membership and you could sit in as a passenger for a test if you make yourself known to me (i think thats allowed but not quite 100%)

I try to aim for mid table, but i have at around a 50hp disadvantage over most of the other cars, so there must be something in the handling that allows these little cars to do well in a fight with some well respected models.

Good luck with the project, im sure you will have a great time competing in it

I'm in southern Ireland so it will be doubtful that I will make it ? the yokahamas I have heard are the best tire for the job, one thing I noticed there not cheap, do you get many tests out of them? I's it just fronts or all round? We usually have 8 test and it is quite sever on tires as mainly handbrake. Thanks for the reply

Hi there
youre right yokos arent cheap, ive done 6 or 7 events on a half worn aet with 2 of us driving so probably 14 tests and they are still just legal. They do feel good at this stage though, and smell really good when they get hot!!
Im sure a well sorted secento with 80 - 90 bhp could be a winning car with the right driver, but the cost and time required to get the car to that level would put me out of the picture. Compare a 998 micra with a £499 Humphris handling kit easily fitted in a day and sadly its a no brainer.
What i would say though is my seicento has given me more fun than any other car ive owned, so go for it - tou never know where it might get you.

thanks for the reply again, the lad who i know had the seciento won the championship 2 years running beating minis and very competitive starlets, but like that he was a very good driver also. he had most of the things i plan on doing done except he changed the exhaust from manifold straight through, he mapped his and got 76 hp when completed. our championships minimum class is 1 liter to 1.4. in our championship one event is 8 runs and if im double driving i cant see getting much value out of the tires

You could gain a lot of time using good tyres rather than spending on strut braces and the like...
My autotest Cinq has a full race 1108 on management, 6 speed box with the reverse detent removed, LSD, discs on the rear, coil overs etc etc, but still needs the best front tyres to get the best from it. Rears can be what you want as they are the ones going sideways...a lot.

Cheers

D
