Audi R8 Full Detail - Pic Heavy

Hi everyone,

I just thought I'd post a few pictures of a recent detail myself and a good friend, Dom from Shop 'n' Shine, performed on an Audi R8 booked in for 2 days of pampering. Some of the photo's are a little repetative as we where going to use them on his website.

The R8 upon delivery was very dirty, neglected some might say! The wheels where caked in brake dust, the paint had very little gloss and was covered in sorts of contamination, there was even moss growing in the drivers side window seal, pretty much everything that could be hampering this cars finish was present and in abundance! Right, onto the photo's.

We started with the wheels. Caked in brake dust and not looking their best even though they had only been re-furbished 2 months ago! The wheels where initially rinsed and then sprayed with Valet Pro's Bilberry wheel cleaner, this was then agitated using a combination of EX Detail Brushes and a small Valet Pro brush to reach the smaller areas i.e. brake caliper etc. We also applied Valet Pro's Dragons Breath at this stage to the wheels to remove any Iron contamination, some contamination was present but with the wheels only being re-furbished around 2 months ago there wasn't a great deal.

Once all 4 wheels where complete we moved onto removing some of the dirt from the car. The initial step was to snow foam the car using Valet Pro's Advanced Neutral Snow Foam.







Whilst the Snow Foam was dwelling we went around all the plastics trims, door shuts, panel gaps, and all the other tighter areas using Valet Pro Citrus Pre-Wash and agitated with numerous brushes. this was to remove as much dirt as possible.

AutoSmart Tardis was next on the list, this product is designed to remove/disolve bitumen (tar) and glue. This product was sprayed all over the car and then any Tar/Glue spots where wiped away using a clean microfibre cloth. The Tardis was then rinsed off using the pressure washer.



The next decontamination stage was to use Valet Pro's Dragons Breath across the entire car to remove any Iron build up. the most noticeable area where this build up showed was the rear bumper.








The car was rinsed again to remove any Dragons Breath so we could move onto Claying the car. This was done using the Clay Bar that Dom sells through his shop, it's a fine/medium grade clay which is brilliant at removing contamination without marring the paint.








The car was snow foamed again to ensure all areas where as clean as possible and there was no trace of the chemicals previously used remaining on the paint.

We now moved onto washing the car with shampoo and a wash mitt using the 2 bucket method. The shampoo of choice was Valet Pro Advanced Poseidon.

Once the car had been rinsed again we could now move onto drying. This was done again via a large microfibre drying towel.







Looking much better already!!

Now was time to bring back some of the gloss the paint was missing previously. We could have performed a 2 stage machine polish, but with time/weather constraints and due to the fact the car had very little swirls/marks we decided to opt for a different approach and use Britemax Blackmax. This product is basically a pre-wax cleanser / glaze and works by hand or machine. In this instance we decided to use a Hex-Logic Black Pad with a DAS-6 Pro. The tighter areas where polished by hand using a microfibre polishing pad.





For protection we used Britemax's flagship wax, Vantage. This wax is a Carnauba based hard wax, it has great easy on/off properties, has excellent protection levels and definitely gives the paint that little something.



Once we had completed the bodywork is was time to move onto the interior, engine bay, exhaust etc.

The exhausts where cleaned and sealed using the Britemax Metal Twins (polish / sealant).

Engine bay was cleaned and dressing with Aerospace 303, and the interior was fully cleaned / dusted and the leather was treated with the Autoglym Leather Care pack.

Good job, looks nice. May i ask whats the best way to clean moss from the window seal? I have a bit on the internal side of the seal.

Sorry for the late reply! Not been on the forum in a while

I find some All Purpose Cleaner (APC) and a small detailing brush normally does the trick.
