I've succumbed and gone to the dark side, Multi has gone and it's now a Citroen C4GP 1.6THP.

SWMBO (and I) were seduced by the Santa Fe courtesy car when the Multi had it's recent accident. Although a Santa Fe was overkill, the idea of a newer, more refined car took seed and grew.

I was going to buy a trailer as we need more space anyway, we already have a 400 litre roof box which isn't quite enough for family holidays, especially if you're camping.
The clutch bite point was getting near the top (at 77k this was expected) and the DMF has been doing the take-up judder thing, also the rear sub-frame bushes were just starting to knock.

Thanks to all those who have helped me in my hour(s) of need, it's a great forum with some great characters.

All the best momoe, I always valued your posts... Obvious from them your wealth of knowledge.
Been a pleasure... Do keep an eye on the forum.
Marty.

Marty,
got most of my knowledge from here and then topped it up by getting my hands dirty, plenty of opportunity for that if you're a Multi owner!

Multi's are a paradox as they're both a blessing and a curse, great design, great engine (diesel) let down by the frangible trim and under-engineered suspension components.
On a 77k miler, I'd replaced both front wishbones, front discs, drop-links, ARB bushes, trailing arm bearings and rear shocks, other than the Xantia where I replaced suspension spheres (easier than changing a spark plug although not as cheap!) I've never done suspension work on any car I've owned.
Sensors are run of the mill items, MAF's go on just about every car, as do crank and cam sensors.

Safe driving, slainthe!

Sad to see you go momoe. I hope you manage to drop by here from time to time as your knowledge and advice are invaluable.
I must admit I came very close to switching to an S-Max over the xmas break. I think I've managed to stave off that itch (for now). I do love my Multi and it will be very hard to get rid when the time finally comes, for all its' failings.

Another one bites the dust, always enjoyed reading your 'hands~on posts'. Do what I do and pop in from time to time and keep in touch. Best wishes momoe.

WMF and Qinteq,

I feel that I've lost the faith, however it's the learning to love it for it's quirks that made the car for me.

It's progress but I'm the type that still hankers back to steam engines, piston engined planes and Austin-Healey's.
Nostalgia rules!

Good luck fella. It's an awful shame having to let the multi go but I know exactly why you've done it.
Such a practical motor but you always have the feeling when driving it that something is about to go wrong.
Out of interest does the C4 have the EGS gearbox. I was tempted on one of those but her indoors didn't like the sound of an EGS box.

Alpitlum,

Yes, it's got the EGS, I managed to get an exclusive spec at a bargain price, self-levelling suspension on the rear which makes for a very smooth ride.

1.6 turbo/EGS isn't much liked as a combo but after a test drive, I thought it was perfectly acceptable.

I had a 57plate 2.0 HDI C4GP with EGS so with the benefit of previous knowledge I know how to work the EGS system, if you floor it, it's not smooth as you haven't got a slush box between the engine and the gearbox.
Anticipate the changes and influence the change by easing off a little, bit like double de-clutching, if you're chauffeuring the outlaws, go to manual mode and use the flappy paddles to really finesse it.

Me too, after 4 years of Multipla madness i too have decided to move on.

Regretfully I too am moving on, my 2001 16v, which is still being driven, is now, together with our Y reg Kangoo going in part x for a C4.
It feels like losing part of our family and to add to the pain all I am getting is £250 for the Multi, I'm told that their hard to sell because you either love or hate them, very frustrated.
So good luck M on your move, have to remember not to flash Multy's any more.

I'd read on a Citroen forum about the box and that it could be a bit jerky when booting it in automatic mode but that it was an easy system to learn, sort of similar to the volvo i-shift system which I have used in the past. Unfortunately I couldn't convince her indoors and once I had brought it up even the option of a full manual wouldn't convince her which is a shame as the spec on the top model is very impressive and I just loved the windscreen.

Out of interest one of the selling points for me was the great economy to be had with the egs system. Have you had chance yet to get any mpg figures together??

Averaging 37 at the moment, this is a mixture of motorway and town.

Engine is impressive, feels more like a supercharged engine than a turbo - no discernible lag. It's also used by BMW for the new Mini and runs up to 200BHP so bottom end should be robust!

You might be on the darkest side, but, the (Brute) force is definitely with you!

Great car, someone I knew had a GT4 but the gearbox wasn't up to the job (and nor was the replacement!)

The faff is aptly named.
Surprises me that 2 boxes failed. Its almost unheard of...

The 3sgte engine is a triumph of engineering. Twin cam, non contact heads. It all went wrong with the zfe engines.

Mines 21 and still hitting 160bhp. Its Jap all the way from now on.
