I know the 1.4 engine is a bit slow at low revs around town, a great answer for around £60 is the INJECTION POWER BOOST VALVE!
This is meant to make big improvement in 1st & 2nd like having new spark plugs all the time, no damp spots at low revs!

NOW the company that manufactuer these valves is called FSE at the min the only make them for the 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 engine bravos. IF ALL 1.4 OWNERS E MAIL FSE SHOWING INTEREST THEY WILL MAKE A VALVE FOR THE 1.4!! I don't kow the address yet but Im sure it should be easy to find. Lets do it!

I agree with Brad, these add-ons are never as good as they claim, also if you tamper with the original specs to boost performance you have to inform your insurance company - and you know what that means!

Right the ball is rolling nice one! Thank you sean & Rachel who understand that the 1.4 is sluggish in 1st and 2nd as for you other guys yes i think it can work if all of us put enough requests in we all love the bravo, and Fiat don't make it just like they don't make other performance parts such as induction kits and s/s exhausts that we all see everyone talking about.

I repeat; if Fiat thought it would do any good they would put it on. There is no great conspiracy.
First, stainless steel exhausts. The material is brittle so you get more noise in the cabin. Yes they don't corrode but your just as likely to snap the pipe first.
Second, power kits. The engine is mapped for a compromise of power economy and noise and life. You can't have one improved without the others changing. So decide what you want less of then go out and buy your kit to match. Nothing is for nothing but the accessory companies keep finding the fairy believers.

I will just keep on trying to see if it is possible for a valve for the 1.4 to go into production as a friend of mine has it on his Ka and the difference really is quite impressive!

The reason why Fiat didn't put the power boost valve on the 1.4 is 'cos they want you to spend more money and get a faster 1.6, 1.8 or 2.0.

That's Why!...Mystery Solved.

Do you really believe that Fiat would want their 1.4 not to be the best 1.4 on the market. I can see the board meeting now...Executive 1 "We have this device that would add about £20.00 to the cost but would make the car perform better"...Executive 2 "No! we must not do that, we don't want to out sell the Focus or Astra 1.4s" ....Executive 3 "And another point, we would upset the Fuel companies by saving all that fuel consumption"

Because....

They don't put it on because standard engine setups are compromises to fit reliability, legal (emission) running costs and manufacturing cost issues. Also things like local temperature, air pressure, quality of fuel have to be considered, which results in an engine that works OK over a range of situations.
The powervalve probably does increase acceleration, but will also increase fuel consumption if you use the acceleration a lot. It may also reduce the life of the engine a bit as it will be stressed that bit more.

It is however entirely possible for faries to provide 'something for nothing'. All you have to do is improve the efficiency of the engine. Engines are very inefficient, with most of the energy they release from the petrol being wasted as heat rather than movement.

Exec1: "Hey Guys, why don't we fit that fantastic new power boost valve to our 1.4 Bravo engine? Afterall it'll only cost another £20 to fit and give the engine all the power and acceleration of our 1.6!!"

Exec2: "Don't be stupid Roberto, let the minions spend another £800 on actually buying our 1.6. If we fit that valve, we'll be losing money...Fool!"


Simple logic really Brad. I'm sure you will find that Ford and Vauxhall follow exactly the same trend, compare the performance figures. If Fiats 1.4 was as good as their 1.6, everyone would buy the cheaper 1.4. It's just another way of getting us to cough up more cash.

OK OK So how do you think this valve works

The fairy jibe was meant to make you think but....you still think the manufacturers are running a conspiracy. Do you beleive this valve has any technical reason for improving the power. Just look at the work the manufacturers have put into the inlet tract design over the past ten years. They have been really creative in getting more torque and power from the engine. So would they have done this if they were not trying to beat the oposition.
No, they would have put this valve on if it did anything. Of course if it just dumps more fuel in then go and buy it.

1. There's no conspiracy, just a marketing tactic.

2. What's the point in making a 1.4 as fast as a 1.6?

3. I know that car manufacturers are always striving to beat the opposition, but at the end of the day they still want you to spend more money and buy the bigger engine.

4. I don't know or care if this stupid valve works. I'm just basing my argument on the premise that it does.

5. Maybe some of my fellow fairy believers can let us know in due course.

If they could actually make the 1.4 as quick as the 1.6 but decided on not doing so for money grabbing reasons, well why the hell did they discontinue the 1.4 and replaced it with a more efficient, powerful and nippier 1.2 16 valve model. Surely the argument that they make the 1.4 slower than it could be so you spend more money on the 1.6 is null and void here if they actually go and sell a cheaper but more powerful car than what they could be selling........

Of course if it made the 1.4 as good as the 1.6, wouldn't they then fit it to the 1.6 and make it as good as the 1.8. And then you could fit it to the 1.8 and make it as good as a 2.0. Of course the real reason for not fitting it is if you did, the logical conclusion to the above is world domination and thats the aim of BMW

All i know is that i wish i had all of this info before i recently purchased my sx,for an extra 500 quid i should of bwaited for a 1.2 16v dooh!!
Yes i wish my sx was quicker but when i compare it to my last car (1.1 fiesta) its bloody great!

Is It Faster?

I'm not convinced that the 1.2 16v is any faster than the 1.4 12v. The 1.2 certainly isn't a very fast car (I know, 'cos I have one!) so according to you guys, the 1.4 must have been like a snail with a broken leg. There's probably very little in it.

Does anyone have performance figures to compare the two?

I think the reason they dropped the 1.4 is so they could dual-use the 1.2 unit in the Bravo SX and Punto Sporting.....and save more money.

It's all about making money....see?

I've seen all this talk of power boost valves, has anybody actually fitted one of these to their car?
If so does it work? ie is the acceleration any better?
