the neverending battle continues, and infact, just gets harder....

so on the list:

the battery is draining, obviously connected to the installing of a new stereo, but at the moment can't see the short that's killing the battery....BUGGER

the clutch, oh goody, slipping at anything over 2.5k revs, was on its way out, now def fubared, so a new one ordered from techniclutch, wallets groaning....

whilst we're in there, may as well get the flywheel balanced and lightened, found a place in bedford with a good rep, but the bucks are heavy....sheesh

oh, and wanted to change out the alloys, either back to the powder coated whites, or my old vulcan 15s, all the locking bolts came of easy...ecept the last one....:bang::bang: BASTARD!!!!!!

it's times like this when the scrappage scheme makes a real good case for itself......

Summer draws near here!

I have some control arm bushes to fit, to try and stop the suspension rattles over rough road, mostly gravel.

Have fun with your clutch, I have 2 of them to do sometime soon, and I think one needs gearbox bearings and synchros. I haven't even looked for the bits to fix it yet.

Clutch, synchro rings, bearings, what will that cost me?

My Uno had its first proper cold start this morning, can't have been more than 2 Celsius, started ok !

I have developed (not personally, the car) an odd whistling sound when the engine is cold and is revved to about 2.5k to 3k RPM, better be able to wait til i've got my dosh sorted.

I feel your pain I've just spent a fortune on the GTV. A used set of calipers and refurb kit £215, new brake pads £25, 2 new tyres and a wheel balance £210, clutch slave cylinder and thermostat £45, insurance due £460! Ouch!

Wash your mouth out
Hang in there Jai, that's really not much of a list and you haven't mentioned any rust repairs... For the stereo, you need to separate the red and yellow wires. I bet they're both live all the time and that causes a substantial drain with some stereos. Quick fix is to pop the face off when you leave the car; better fix is to have the red wire live only when the ignition is on (use the blue wire that supplies the heater fan switch).

My 70SX has been amazingly reliable (furiously touches wood!) this past year. However, the MOT is looming...

As I found out when giving the old Uno a preliminary check over at Jai's place lst week, it wasn't the master cylinder that had gone but actually one of the wheel cylinders. So that's going to be sorted, hopefully, next Tuesday when I fit new rear shoes and brake cylinders and also give the braking system a good flush/ bleed. It also needs a new n/s/f tyre, and I need to fit some headlights that don't let water in...

I've already fitted new plugs, an air filter and new heat tubing from exhaust manifold to air filter housing. The engine seemed to be running fine before I did this but this should hopefully make it run that little bit better (y)

Fingers crossed that this time next week it will have a spanking new MOT certificate!

Ooh - kinky. :D
You English have some strange expressions ;)
You probably don't want to know the mental image I had of what might be happening in the waiting area.

It sounds like your Uno's going well, Chas... Usually once the headlights let water in, you can peel the lens off the reflector easily enough (it almost falls off) and clean/reattach with polyurethane roofing sealant or Sikaflex, etc. Stronger than silicone sealant but that will do if it's all you have to hand :)
