ok my question isnt as stupid as it sounds.

this month i managed 230miles for a full tank of petrol town driving, usually i manage 190-200max!!

i have a 1.4 by the way

i literally ran my tank to the minimum there must have been like 0.5ltr left maybe less, lol

anyway i went to shell which is somewhere i don't usually go i usually go to tesco's petrol station.

now here is the thing, since filling with shell my car feels more responcive less sluggish and just feels more fit and healthy.

is it because i emptied the tank ? or is it because i used a diffrent petrol brand ??

and before anyone comments it WASTENT optimax :) it was just normal petrol

anyone else done this ? noticed anything diffrent ?

petrol can be cleaner from some places I suppose but would never think of it to give that much gain :)

You can have an Octane 95 or a Octane 98 petrol fuel. Normal fuel is 95 and fuels like optimax are 98.

Bearing in mind i own a 1.8 Bravo.

I have been on Asda fuel for sometime and then decided to try using shell due to fuel prices at the time being the same. I used Optimax for a bit and the car did feel a little more responsive but the MPG never changed but for the extra money in my opinion wasn't worth it. I then decided to use Shells regular fuel for a few weeks and i noticed my MPG's had dropped by 5MPG's compared to the Optimax and Asda's own petrol.

I now use Asda's fuel as its better then Shell, as i work for Asda i found out that our supplier of fuel is Texaco.

Supermarkets buy from the cheapest supplier, so it can vary a lot.
Branded petrol is nearly always better petrol. More additives, etc. ( I delivered it most of my working days!).

I use mainly BP or shell normal unleaded. I used to use alot of supermarket stuff in my last car and it did prefer the branded stuff.

I never used to care about fuel, what ever station i was near would do! but then i tried the optimax and i too thought the car was more livly, i wouldnt say quick in general, just quicker to pick up, more responsive! I then was running low and gave in to a local garage, since i have started to mix the fuels i have definatly noticed a slump in refinment in the engine! time to flush her through with some optimax again i think!

Petrol definatly makes a difference, i would say if you can afford it then stick to the optimax, they got me hocked when the local shell dropped the optimax price to being a penny more than the ordinary stuff for a limited time so thought it was worth ago!

I prefer diesel lol doubt my JTD would like me using any type of petrol ;)

but seriously is this the case for diesel? because i used the BP ultimate diesel and it did nout for MPG or performance the only increase in performance was from my wallet

I use a 50/50 mixture of shell's ordinary unleaded and optimax.

People do sometimes stare when i drive round to the optimax pump mid fill up though!

The car definitely feels more responsive with optimax.

re

i use BP Ultimate if i get the chance, doenst really feel different but i always seem to get a lot more miles to the tank!

you can get ultimate diesel too! lol

Re: re

I just use Q8 fuel. you get a coupon in the evening paper every night for 3p off a litre. back of the net. 77.9p a litre. normal bp fuel is 82p+ here and shell is about 85p+. such a rip off in my opinion.

Re: re

Shell is usually cheaper here (Essex) and I think it is better than the rest - seem to get more MPG
