When we first had 4 kids, we needed 6 seats and it was a straight trade off between a multi and the Honda FRV at the time - we didn't like the "seat in the boot" approach of the mini-MPVs like the old Zafira and "proper" MPVs were out of our price range.

We got lucky and snapped up a 2008 jtd multi for £12,500 brand new (persuaded the dealer to throw in his family ticket ;-) as he needed a sale!)

Ten years later we still have 4 kids (though they are older and bigger) but don't have much more appetite to spend great swathes of cash on a car but the sad reality is that with 120,000 miles on the clock we're starting to find that the multi has past its best. We're not technically minded and whilst the bills aren't quite racking up just yet we're conscious that its better to buy at leisure than in haste when it all goes pear-shaped.

But my oh my, value for money on cars with anything other than 5 seats is hard to come by!

Where is the value at at the moment for something which has at least 6 seats and a boot (when all seats are full) at least as big as the multi?

It looks like we'd need to go 4 or 5 years back in terms of 2nd hand and still be paying £15k or so for something with mileage less than 50k and a reputable source.

Anyone with any experience of where they've found a good answer to replacing a multipla?

Would not be without a Multipla for the family. They prefer it to the 5 series tourer for trips.
I just bagged a 50k mile 2010 one in nice condition.

I'm in a similar position as my Multi is nearing the end of it's economical life(clutch/rear swing bearings/cambelt need doing) and have been looking for a replacement. I've now come to the conclusion that there really isn't a direct alternative to a Multipla, especially if like me you love the ugly bug model. If a good lowish mileage one comes up, in blue, then I'd be more than happy ( I'd also then have a spares car!)

Just bite the bullet and get the one you've got (or a good-ish other one, so you're not off the road for ages) well sorted. Numbers of Multiplas left on the road are dropping so fast that finding a good low mileage roundnose is now almost impossible. Anyone with a good one that doesn't need work doing to it is likely hanging on to it, knowing that it would be a sod to replace. All the others are being run 'til they bust, then scrapped.

My Multi has been SORN'd for a while now. I'm fortunate that I have other cars to use (a Citigo, an Avantime and two Audi A2's, though one of those is also SORN'd) but there is no way that I'll part with the Multi as I know it's basically sound and one day I'll get around to fitting all the parts that I've amassed for it.

It also happens to be the best of all the cars :)

There's nothing that replaces a Multiplla 'cept another Multipla - ask anybody whose owned a few (I'm on #6 - like a idiot I scrapped #7 after trying to sell it, with no takers).
I'm in the process of finishing my rear end rebuild and if I can get off me lazy arse, it'll be done in a couple of hours. (I do have other commitments, but that's too easy an excuse to use too often)
You're gonna be hard pressed to find anything to replace it, and when (or if) you do, you're gonna miss the old bug.
Good Luck
George
