Hi,,

Thanks
Kenny

Timing belt 89.73 + vat. Just had it done the other week at 72K.

seems a fair price, for what kind of job it is, thanks alot for the help(y)

I wish I lived near Tewkesbury! Got mine done at local (trusted) independent a few months ago - think it was nearer £250 supplied and fitted.

It does depend if you are just having the belt changed or the tensioner etc. At £250 (which is approx. what I have been quoted) it will be the whole kit, which is advisable. I was going to do it myself but have been told it can be a b*****d & need a large star driver to remove the tensioner. The lower price is probably just the belt.

You're right, the price I paid did indeed include the tensioner. And it was on it's last legs!

I think from experience it would be as well to change the tensioner whenever the belt gets replaced, especially when you take into account the work involved getting to the belt.

Laurel Garage Tunbridge Wells Kent. Always good prices. £89 + vat

Sorry, yes, you are right. Just answering the cam belt change question. For a full replace inc idler pulley, obviously more.

Do it yourself. It is easy enough if you line up the top timing marks and Paint mark all the pulleys before you disturb anything. Don't try turning the belt over using the top (cam shaft pulley) as the belt may jump the bottom pulley if the belt is stretched (personal experience) then the pistons strike the valves (noisy:eek:). Hardest bit is getting the bottom pulley off. Your bottom may tweek a bit if you are not sure of what to do but if you mark all pulleys for reassembly it will be ok. once the belt is on, manually turn over the bottom crank, if it turns through two revolutions then it is ok (mines was one tooth out and things were mechanically banging:cry:). Mines cost £85 for the kit (belt, tensioner and idler pulleys). fortunately had a splined bit from an impact driver set which fitted the engine mount bolt :). So cost £85 and a couple of hours on a sunny day:cool:.
