I've just bough myself a bravo and got from what I am aware, a blue coloured key.

I've now been told that theres a red key and a card that i should have got too. How important are these 2 things (that i dont have)?

why are there 3 different things and whats the puropose of them all.

So when exactly may i need the red key??? I have the blue one and i'm able to drive as normal (thank god!!!). Whats the likihood of me ever needing the red one???

the radio works fine, but i'm planning to put a cd changer in (only got the car yesterday). will putting a grudig cd changer reset everything(lock it so i'll need the code card digits to get the stereo working again, or can i just stick one in)

i.e - do i need to start panicing? and/or be careful of how i treat my nice new car just incase it decides to reset or lock the ECU

A bit misleading.
CODE cards were not supplied with UK cards. They were kept at a central point by request of the insurance companies. The CODE code allows the car to be started by using the accelerator to input the code under certain conditions.

You should however get a radio code. If you don't have a radio code all is not lost. Fiat can get the code form the serial number. They might charge for this though.

PS If you've only got 1 blue key, get it cloned immediately at a local key shop such as Timpsons. If you lose your only key you will have to have all the locks and the engine electronics replaced at huge cost!

i'm preseuming that the radio code is JUST for the radio iteself and has nothing to do with the engine/locks or anything else to function. So why have a CODE card???

also, I'll DEFINATELY get another blue key made asap. Am i ever liekly to need the red key or should i be ok with using the blue?

what do most bravo owners use day-to-day: blue or red key?

thkans for your help

the blue key is for every day use, you only need the red key if the electrics or the ecu **** up.

thats cool.

its not needed when replacing the car battery or anything like that?

Hi mate.
Check to see if the code has been activated on your radio.
On btm right there is a key with EXP.
Press & hold for 2 secs.
Scroll through options.
One option will either say SAFE or CODE.
SAFE = code activated
CODE = No code, meaning you can remove radio & you wont need to enter a code when you re-fit.

By default, Fiat supply without a code entered.

Hope this helps

so doe sthat mean that u can get replacement keys that work ( i thought u could only get kets cut off the red one) by getting the blue one copied???

thanks for the stereo advice mate. I'll check it tonight. I'm parked up at the mo with no road tax.

Yes you can get the blue key cloned at high street shops. About £20 when I had mine done.

At the time Fiat couldn't do it. No idea if they can now. Probably not, as they will want to do a proper job and replace everything.

I ran a Brava for 4 years with only the blue key and didn't ever have a problem. The times a red key will help you are few and far between. If your ECU packs up then the red key probably isn't going to help you anyway.

Your only worry is that there are two other keys in existance for your car, and you don't know where they are. Suggest you are economical with the truth if your insurance company starts sniffing around!

i've tried pressing and holding the EXP button - doesn't do anything!!!

Press & hold EXP for 3 secs until EXPERT appears on display screen.

Having just looked at the manual:
Model 182M does not appear to have an option for ac/deac the code.
Model 182H2 does.

GET A RED KEY!

Other frequent users of this forum will have heard about the hassle and pain my key problems have given me.

Basically if you loose your keys or they are stolen (as was the case with me) and you don't have a red key its sooo much hassle! Either have to pay £800 to fiat (don't think so) or search around the scrap yards and find whole other set of keys, ecu, codeblock, door locks, boot locks and stering column lock.

So get a red key or like the guide says knock serious money off a car that hasn't got one (suppose my car was a bargain anyway so was risk I took).

BTW Cheers to everyone who helped me sort this problem out, legends the lot of ya!
