Any help regarding this would be great and at least a pint to anybody that solves. Maybe more. ;)

Am having a few problems with a new build. It freezes randomly. Doesnt have to be doing anything, but more often when idling or viewing web pages. Sometimes while loading the windows 7 logo it will crash and also on the welcome screen. Now and again it will just suddenly restart itself.

The event viewer says:

critical
Event 41 - kernel power

error
event 20 - WHEA-Logger - fatal hardware eror? northbridge
event 1001 - Dhcp-Client
event 1001 - BugCheck
event 6008 - EventLog
event 7026 - Service Control Manager

The Power supply is plenty. Have tried running without graphics card. Have tried just 1 hard drive rather than the 2 in raid 0 i have now. Have tried just the 2 SATA hard drives without the 2 IDE CD drives. System is running plenty cool enough according to programs. Have got latest bios.

Motherboard is M4a785TD-V evo
Processor is Phenom II X4 965
Graphics card is XFX 4870

Its really getting on my t1ts.

Chances are its one of these:
1. Bad Windows installation (tried reinstalling/running a Linux distro?)
2. Bad RAM
3. Bad PSU
4. Bad motherboard

Try just one stick of RAM, try other slots on the motherboard if its happy to boot with the ram in any slot. You could also try something like memtest86
Try another PSU if available.

Think ive narrowed it down to memory settings in the BIOS. The auto ones are not good enough. If i run it at 400 and 1.5v it doesnt freeze. I just have no idea what the settings are. they confuse the hell out of me.

Memory clock value - auto / manual
Memclock value - 400, 533, 667, 800
DRAM timing - Auto, DCT0, DCT1, BOTH

I know the memory is stated as being 1.5v, but thats all i know.

Shouldnt i have a 1333 in the first option?

What is the full spec of the memory you have installed ?

I'd try not running it in dual channel on auto and see if it freezes carry on. Sometimes certain RAM isn't happy about running in Dual Channel, but it should have no problems though, not like your running cheap stuff!

Since running on 400Mhz with 1.5v it has not crashed. Fingers crossed. Will leave it on this for a few more days and see if it does as was crashing daily. If it doesnt crash at least i know its memory. May See what other memory i have lying around and try in a few days.

Thanks for the info. (y)
