I posted this problem a while back, don't think nobody knew then so all thoughts welcomed!

When i brake there is a loud grinding, squeeking/chirping noise coming from the front right wheel. This also happens if i turn right?!?!

I've changed the discs and the pads.

Got the car back from its mot rework today
and they said they noticed it on their "test run"
They had no idea what it was. The wheel itself isnt rubbing or anything on full lock?!?! They said they could have a look at it but it means stripping it all down and i cant afford that after its bloody mot(£400)

Does any1 have any idea what this could be???

And can some1 tell me what a flange and bearing is as it cost me £130 on my mot today!!!

Cheers
Keef on buckfast!!!

Sorry mate, haven't got a clue. Doesn't ring a bell on anything i've read about either.

The flange is the part the road wheel is fitted to the flange has a sleeve that is smooth on outside diameter and splined on inner diameter, the inner spline fit's to the spline on the drive shaft and the outer diameter is a tight fit in the bearing that's located in the hub and it is locked in position by the big nut that can be seen in the center of the front wheel's. The rear wheel flange comes complete with the bearing, so this part would be more expensive than the front wheel bearing, but can't see it being worth £130 though. And the noise could be a faulty wheel bearing still but coud'nt be sure without listening to it, it does'nt need to be stripped down to diagnose this fault either.

Re: Re: Any1 know what this could be?

Front wheel bearing is £40ish. Sounds like your front wheel bearing, maybe they did not tighten it up properly.

Re: Re: Re: Any1 know what this could be?

thanks lads, but would'nt they of picked it up, if it was the wheel bearing, on the mot?

They replaced the opposite sides wheel bearing 2 months back then on its mot there they said it was unsafe to drive as it had excessive play in the wheel!!! They found it was the bearing they had replaced earlier at fault and they fixed it with no labour charge. Is this why i've forked out for a new flange??

Ps any reccomendations on a set of leads???

Re: Re: Re: Re: Any1 know what this could be?

Hehe, that means they DIDN'T do it up properly.

If one bearing has gone, the other won't be far behind.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Any1 know what this could be?

I got a set of Bosch leads and had to take them back as they didn't even reach the plugs.
Sy got the same set and is going to take them back too as they are loose and jump off the plugs when they are long enough.
I got a set from Carcraft in Rochdale (part no. A10EK)
and they fit nice and tight and seem to be a better quality than the original Fiat ones.
And since i put them on the car seems to start better and feels like it's pulling better.
Though this could just be my imagination but i don't think so.
Only £18.50 too.

If your old leads were ****ed then it would run better. Duh ;)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Any1 know what this could be?

Bearing have to be pressed in they may have knocked them in with an hammer if i were you i'd check to see how they are fitting them. My son has a rover 214 and the wheelbearing is noisy no play but still dangerous as it could over heat and seize, because i can't work on car's anymore he has had to make enquiries to have it done in a garage, so far he has been quoted £80 for the bearing plus £40 labour. when he told me that he had the car booked in i told him to cancell it on making enquiries i can get his wheel bearing for £18 including vat all i need now is to find someone to fit it.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Any1 know what this could be?

Cheers lads.

Think the garage/cowboys charged me bout £70 for the bearing change all in!
I'll be taking it elsewhere to have this problem looked at!
