On the off chance - I will be visiting Australia in September and will be in Sydney at the end of the month for a few days. Not sure how much time we will have spare (only there for 4 nights) but are there any 500-related events on in Sydney around that time?

While there is significant interest in 500s in Australia I am not sure that there are any 500 specific clubs. You could try Fiat Club NSW website or the Italian Made Social Motoring Club (IMSMC) - both are good bunches of people and both clubs certainly have 500 owners as members. The IMSMC has an event on in Sydney on 29 August (see their website):

The day will commence at 8am and conclude by 10am.
A coffee & Cannoli, is offered.
The cost of the morning is $50 per car. We need 30 cars for the event to go ahead.
It is NOT a race day. There is NO OVERTAKING... It is simply an opportunity to do "laps" of the track ( some will be more daring than others)... We hope to create a good photo opportunity, whist you are on the track
Fiat Club NSW has their concorso on 15 Sept and a coffee catchup on 29 Sept.
