Hi guys just wondering have there been any type of improvements made to the FIAT 500 since its launch?(Quality of the interior, engine, suspension etc....)

Also are there any known improvements in the following months?

yes lots of them

use the search/ read past posts

most significant is revised rear suspension

Thanks the only things I manged to pick up was that the latest ones are coming with START/STOP as standard and that the 500C now has a ARB,which the normal 500 doesnt have. Also lately Ive seen the two-tone colour scheme.I know Blue&Me gets updated regularly.

The only significant change that springs (sorry) to mind is the suspension.

If you are asking because of deciding about buying second hand one having tested a new one, that would be the one thing that might come as a shock (ouch) to you.

Drove a 60 reg 2010 500 today as a courtesy car whilst mine was in for its service, and the difference in the ride is noticeable (as mentioned by everyone else). It certainly deals with speed bumps in a much more refined manner than ours (if we have anyone in our car and they're drinking or eating, we'll give them a verbal heads-up when there's some speed bumps approaching:D).

However, another thing I noticed was that the starter mechanism sounded a fair bit different. Of course they are both 1.2's, and aside from the changes with Stop/Start etc, I can't see any reason why this would be the case? The new one sounded much smoother, quicker to start and quieter.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Hi Super Uwe I read that cars with Stop/Start have an uprated Bosch starter motor to cope with the extra loading.

And an uprated battery.

There seem to have been subtle changes to the MFD as well - my 2010 1.2 manual has two little arrows to advise you of the best gear change points for maximum economy.

I'm looking at a 500 Sport 1.3 MJT (with interscope, dom sky, and more) from july 2008. Hum, I wonder if it worth it too pay more for a newer 500 just for the rear suspension? What do you thing?

drive both- i came from a newish megane with super smooth ride into a new 2009 500 sans suspension update and nearly took off at my first speed bump- its very bouncy

the ride NEVER settles down- i got used to it- thought it was part of its charm-
however the 500 is so nice in many ways that the improved suspension makes it more of an all rounder-

depends really on your tolerance- test drive the one you have your eye on- but that is a very early model so many of the initial foibles the 500 had could be present...(if not ironed out by previous owners)

only you can answer your question really..

diesel is SWEET engine tho!

You're maybe right. I'm aiming at a 95 horsepower diesel and that's a new one so maybe for the best - if I don't find a really nice older one with "the right" price. I've a Mini Cooper S (175 hp) but want a cheaper car too drive and it's fun to change car every now and then.

Thanks for your reply.

The 2011 US Fiat 500 has so many changes to it,will we ever get the same changes?and they arent really minor changes it seems as if the US 500 is a much more refined car and Fiat has actually worked on all its blemishes to give them a better 500.Why should they benefit from this, when Fiat has to work twice as hard to market the 500 over there because the Americans initial response to the 500 was that its too small and didn't have the same appeal to them as it does to Europeans.
