Sorry to put a sanner in the works but as soon as GTi is mentioned then insurance will be higher due to possible upgraded suspension etc and also they would be fairly quick so high insurance will still be an issue for young drivers. I looked at a swift GTi years ago when i was young and had a full head of hair, insurance was steep then, would not like to think what it would be now.

Stick to 'normal' cars until your premiums reduce then get a real GTi/HGT etc

well im payin to much for my insurance as it is. 18years old with a 1.8 hlx. lol
so i think i can handle a 1.3 gti.
and i no someone that has one. he is 18 and payin somethik stupid like 500 fuly comp. thats crazy. if i can do that it would be great.
cheers for the info though guys.

Also worth looking at the models manufacturers do that have 80% of the GTi in them.

For example the punto 1.2 16v Active Sport - it's hard to find in the 16v variant but is pretty much there as a Sporting. It doesn't have the suspension, side skirts or 6 speed box. BUT it does have the same seats, leather wheel & gearknob, and importantly the same engine. But the insurance on a 1.2 Active Sport should be much less than on a Sporting.

Equally if you like Pugs the Quicksilver models are pretty much the GTi version just badged differently - same interiors, engine etc.

Most manufacturers do something similar to this and it may be worth looking into, as a badge is just a badge.

well considering the fiat bravo 1.8hlx is a group 8 and the suziki swift 1.3 gti is a group 11 i fail to see how the insurance will be lower for you :) and from what i have read its only 134bhp so its not even a big gain but its top speed is only 114mph so the bravo you have is faster the swift 0-60 is 8.9 and has a poor 108nm of torque so even thats not impressive enoug to judge a change of car that you have i think your best bet would be look at other insurance companys

im not changing it for the power. just a cheaper car to run realy.
need to build up my no claims then ill get a nice car. type r or somethink like that.

I can't imagine any lad getting fully comp insurance on any car for £500...unless he's only a named driver.

but as i was saying its 3 groups higher than the bravo you have so how would it be cheaper to run ?? i dont think the fuel costs would make that much of a difference and then why not just get a diesel if it was the fuel cost but you are going to pay more for the insurance than what you are already are paying so i dont see how swapping the car will be cheaper

alright then. i dont wont a deisil. they are terible things.
and still end up bein expensive on tax cos they have to be over 1.6 to be any good. i think i might have to stick to a clio or somethink just to have a cheap car, insurance and tax for a few years. then upgrade big style.
cheers for the info

lol 1.9 tdi is cheaper to tax than my fiat. and insurance on diesles is usually cheaper too

but if u dont like diesel u dont like them i aint gonna try and convince you to divert

the cheapest car to insure is a group1 1 litre corsa. its a little 3 ccylinder engine adn its wank. heads always go. so the next thing to go for is a 1.2 and if ur getting a 1.2 i might aswell get a bravo. at least u can remap it to 1.6 preformance.
