Hello fellow Fiat Forumers...i have just bought a Fiat Punto Sporting and before buying I found this site extremely useful. Despite all the problems mentioned on this site it did not deter me from buying one, although starting to encounter problems of my own now and felt impelled to join!
Fitted a new timing belt on my car plus new drive belts but car won't start. Engine turns over but refuses to start. Popping noise coming from the inlet pipe (currently air filter off the car due to repairs). Sometimes it pops but after a few attempts with the ignition it stops...but car still won't start. Motor turns over though (like a flat battery sounds but tried jump starting too and that doesn't work). 'Custard' has suggested that it is because the timing is out by 180 degrees but is this possible if locking tools are in place and piston rods appear level? Also, have i seriously damaged my car now beyond repair if this is the case?
I am a 23 year old female who doesn't know much about cars but with all the problems I have had with them over the last couple of years I am beginning to learn loads, and respect what mechanics do a lot more now! (My dad has been trying to 'fix' my car though, i wouldn't dare!)
