Latest progress...

Its going to be a flight sim with motion platform.

The PC is Uber cool! The setup looks pro too! Nice job.

I used to play X plane 11 a fair bit. My joystick self programmed to the software making it easy to do basic manoeuvres. The same joystick doesn't program to MS flight sim making it a pain to get started. I don't suppose you know a cheap joystick that self programs do you?

I liked the fighter jets best. I could get them to fire rockets but never managed to destroy an enemy plane. Landing on aircraft carriers was ace too!

Sorry, I dont. I haven't got that far into it yet. I bought the Virpil cyclic & collective controls, and two touch screens for the gauge/radio stack.

I played with the first MSFS and also bought the new one, but my new PC at the time went down (faulty bios bricked my NVME OS) which at the time I thought was the new MSFS. So started using DCS World, oh and Assetto Corsa.

Ha ha, practice makes perfect.
I did a few real helo flights, before coming to the conclusion its never going to happen, but the sim is quite possible, and getting closer.
Hence, my other projects are suffering. But what the hell...
I can't imagine myself ever being a pilot for real. I would need to have started 30 years ago...I enjoy take off and landing on real jets, but the bit in-between isn't very interesting.

check this one out for sale on Gumtree. Made from an actual Harrier cockpit. Not quite on the same scale, but damn good considering!!

That looks good! How much as a matter of interest?

If you click on the link, there are a load of other pics of this. Is asking £700 for it

Boscombe Down Aviation collection, Old Sarum Airfield also have a full cockpit from a lancaster, and many other aircraft that you can actually sit in, and explore the controls etc, under supervision. Harriers, Hunters, a tornado, Jaguar, Canberra's and loads of other exhibits to look at. They have a flight simulator, (not sure which aircraft though, as didn't get a go, (big waiting list, as you have a volunteer sat with you, and takes about 30 mins)) but has 3 screens and looked quite realistic.
As someone who did their apprenticeship with Bae, (then BAC) got to work on, and fly in some of the aircraft. Actually flew in a 2 seater glider, and a 'strikemaster' (which was the old 'provovst') 2 seater trainer. All very interesting. Worked on parts for Concorde, as well as Tornado, and Jaguar, alongside some Airbus work for a while, as well.

Cool stuff that.

Its a shame concorde mark 2 was never put into production, the fuel economy was the problem, but with lighter craft and better engines these days i dont see why not.

I keep meaning to go back to RAF Cosford, its much bigger than the AVRO museum. Maybe next summer.

I took a look. You're doing some really high quality CADs there! I'm sure the manufacture will go well and I'm interested to see how the job progresses.

I used AutoCAD for a few years, it was slow and painful making up designs. The printers used to cost £1000s.

To be fair, they are not that high quality, but they are dimensionally correct, which allows me to confirm buildability (is that a word?)
I'm using FreeCAD who have just released version 1.0, so in theory its out of beta. I've been using it on and off for a few years now and watched it go from complete rubbish to quite reasonable.

I have turned off, a lot of the pieces that would obscure the views in the images, because the workings are buried under the seats.
But I getting there....
