HI there. Newbie here.

My wife has a Sicilian Orange Aniversario and the tyres need replacing... currently Goodyear 195/45 R16.. they are quite crashy and hard....

Has anyone fitted "larger" tyres or have any suggestions to soften things up a little... maybe 195/55 R16 or 195/65 R16..... don't want to ruin the looks..>!

Looks or a comfortable ride, mmm. When young it was the former, now the latter:) .
Seriously though, unless it is possible to go down a rim size and then fit the higher profile tyres you will alter the gearing and that is assuming no clearance issues.
The other little detail is unless approval is obtained in advance in writing, should you have a mishap irrespective of who is at fault, your friendly insurance company will take great pleasure in voiding liability:( .

The problem with balloon tyres on the original rims is that they'll likely foul something.. either suspension or the inner wheel arch liners when turning the wheels.

As above, the "better" solution would be to go down a wheel size to 15" and then fit higher profile tyres to restore the original wheel/tyre dimensions.

But then you'd lose the Anniversario wheels.

Another option might be to look at the tyres. If yours are replacement tyres, they may have a higher load rating than original (the "82H" type number after the sizing).... especially if the new tyres have a higher speed rating. Higher load rating tends to mean stiffer sidewalls, so you may be able to find tyres you like with a lower load rating and/or the original speed rating... which means softer sidewall. But don't go below the original load rating (refer to the manual).

It'll only be minor but it may help.
