OK, so I know I'm not technically a Ulysse driver any more (but that's only because you can't get them in America without paying somewhat over the odds to get them imported), but I did have one for over a year in the UK, and had my (un)fair share of problems in the beginning also....

As people have said in numerous threads though, the experiences we see reported here are no different really to those experienced by other car owners.

As an example, below is a sorry tale from my brother in law who has just had to change his company car.....

We too have had a change of car. The VW was taken back and we now have a Ford Mondeo Diesel Estate 2.0TDCi 130 Ghia. It's more economic than the VW, has a 6CD changer player, which isn't ejecting the CD's and hopefully will be replaced tomorrow. The rear passanger door has decided to stop opening from the inside so a new handle is also being fitted tomorrow!

When it was delivered a few weeks ago (with 39 miles on the clock) the driver said that there was a slight knocking noise coming from the back. We had a look at the back and thought it might be the spare wheeel cover. However when we took it out for a test drive the slight knock was an almighty banging noise of metal on metal. He called the lease company who sent the RAC out to us very promptly. He found that a huge bolt connecting the subframe to the body had sheared its head. He fitted a temporary replacement. The car was collected by the supplier and given a thorough check, fitted with a proper Ford part, and returned a few days later.

Since then the aforementioned faults have also occured and tomorrow will be the third time the car has had to go back.

It's a pity because apart from this we are pleased with the car. Being a company lease car we did not have a choice, it had to be Ford or Volvo and as we need to tow the caravan our choice was further limited within the price range. Hopefully all will be well after tomorrow.
Having said all that, I'm pleased to say that the only problem I've had with my current car so far is a CD player that didn't like playing certain CDs and that has since been changed under warranty.

Hi John :D

Yep, it just goes to show you - people slate FIAT straight away, saying 'rust bucket, hunk of junk, etc' - but it can be any car, any marque. My fathers NEW SL500 was recalled straight away, due to brake problems, and the potential of them engaging at any time, lol.

So what CDs doesn't it like? Eurotrash?

It was to do with the thickness of the disk (didn't like thin disks), so it didn't like any of my 'safety copies' or compilations, but also wouldn't play the new U2 CD (original). It was fine with older (typically thicker) CDs. It's all sorted now though!

I used to keep an eye on the Ford Galaxy forums when I had one and there was a whole host of problems on there - makes Fiat dealers look almost interested!

It's a Mitsubishi, but like its little brother (the Outlander) is designed and built in the US. I've done about 1500 miles in it now and it's been great so far.

The CD problem was because the disks weren't being gripped properly - the drive mechanism wasn't clamping down on the disk properly. Fortunately the car has a full 3 year warranty that stays with the vehicle, so a simple call to the local dealer got it swapped for a new/good one.

There in lies another story - the dealers here seem responsive, helpful, genuinely interested in solving your problems - more that I'd ever experienced from a dealer in the UK (and I'd experienced Ford, Vauxhall, Renault and Fiat).

Thing is, I live 10 minute walk from the office right now, so apart from driving about 1000 miles in 9 days while my family were here a couple of weeks ago, it's spent a lot of its time in the garage - it's more trouble to drive to work than to walk it, so the car only comes out when it's wet (not very often) or when I have to go somewhere during the day (also not very often), or at the weekend!

Still enjoying it here, but will love it even more come August!

The only things I miss about the UK (apart from my family [hence th August comment]) are decent chocolate, baked beans, and cider.
