Hi, Does anyone know if the Alternator in a 2014 ducato motorhome is suitable for charging both a WET starter battery and AGM leisure batteries. I've been told that it may not be suitable but I'm looking for confirmation before I buy AGM batteries. Thanks.

This is off the top of my head as they say, but the alternator is as you know supplying both battereries as you drive, and “takes” what it needs depending on demand from each. However the output voltage to your leisure battery is going to be governed by the MH controller and not the vehicles ECU.

I can only speak from my experience of having both Gell and lead acid batteries fitted to a few X250 / X290 variants. I never noticed any problems when they were charged from the alternator and all run normally

I have agms in my van thet are ex telecoms cabinet ups batteries. They are about 12 years old and have been im my camper for 7 years. They are 35kg each the scrap value is 80% of what I paid for them. Regular dumb alternator voltage is too low to ever fully charge them and can also be too high for float charging but as altenator will never fully charge them its not much of an issue in real world usage.
