Technical Alternator problem? - Fault code U1702

ha, ha, fixed finally. it was the alternator after all, the bloke who first looked stiched me up. its cost £160 for an alternator and labour, everything working fine now

There's some really useful advice here but you seem keen to ignore it

but argonaught, i wasnt sure what the fault code was, i was advised it wasnt the alternator, do you think getting the wrong advice really helps me to fix the problem? you suggested a code reader, i got one, tell me what advice i have ignored?

I'm afraid I've completely lost track of what's going on here but if you've now go it sorted (and hopefully really sorted) then full marks to you

What was the story of the alternator your were given with the car - was that faulty then ?

It looked the same but was the wrong type, i had to trust the garage, it all works great now, i cannot believe how light the steering is!!!!!!!!!!
