hey

what kinda alternator (how much of A does it have) is in a 1998 1.6 sx bravo?

Are the ones in a bravo diesel more powerful?

thank you!

bye

well, i'd like to get sth bigger like 150A so I knwo I'll have to work on it to fit :D

nah, but i'm (if i get the job :D) buy some more amps and it will pull a lot of power from my batteries so i need a bigger alt.

Let's say i'll need around 4500 rms @ 1ohm (+ around 600w rms for fronts, 2x200w rms@2ohm + 2x100w rms@4ohm) at 13,5V (hell, i'll be happy even with 13V :D). All for daily, comps are for pussies :D:D

so i'd like to upgrade my alt.

Even if you had it turned all the way up, playing music would average about 1/4 those powers. Maybe 1/2 on a very bassy track.

1000W is easily within the capabilities of the stock alt.

Definately is possible, just wired up a 1000w @ 1ohm on a stock 1.4 alternator

LOL, i know it is possible, i currently have 2400w rms @ 1ohm only per sub and it's ok ;)

but i doubt that it will still be ok when doubling that power.

at the moment

Resonant Engineering XXX 15 (1600w rms, 2500w peak, 2+2ohm)
+
Alphasonik PMA1200D -> 1200w rms @ 4ohm, 2000w rms @ 2ohm, 2400w rms @ 1ohm

;)

Good choice Sergio, me has a XXX 10"

I don't believe we can get AlphaSonik over here but we do have other beasts that can do 2000w +
I'll stick with the 1000 or so i have for mo (must resist temptation to buy bigger amp... must resist)

Paul, what was wrong with the SPL amp in the end?

Sergio, have you upgraded the wiring in the engine bay?

Hey Tom,

Sent it to fixmyradio.com and they fixed for me, next day . It was the short circuit fet (i think thats correct). They replaced and tested £59, bloody bargain i reckon !!

Hopefully weekend of the 25th i'll finally get my 0 gauge in and start distributing power to the SPL DIG-1450 and to my other Kenwood amp and i'll get my fronts amped up as well !

Looking at getting a scope of EddyP for £60 hopefully and i'll get everything setup correctly.

TOM:

not yet, i still have to the what "americans" call "the big 3 upgrade" ;)

Paul: hehe, i owned the dig 1450 before, but sold it before i got my XXX as i tough it wouldn't be enoug ;) But than again a friend has a Brahma 15 (almost the same as XXX, 1600w rms, a bit different motor and some other differences) and he says that he only needs 1000w ;)

I'd recomend you do the big 3 ASAP, the charge wire on the 1.6 is tiny!

The engine and chassis earths are a reasonable size though.

Sergio,

For the XXX, 1600W is better i must admit but 1000W is plenty to get it moving for the time being. If in some point i can increase the voltage the likelyhood is the DIG-1450 should give me a bit more.

Tom

Are the wires the same spec on a 1.4 do you know, i do have it planned to upgrade all 3 at some point though

paul:

well, i was told by the seller of SPL Dynamics here (a friend of mine) that all of the dig-1450's that were sold here, were benched at around 1200w+ rms at 14.4V ;)

Yeah i think its the same here, 1200 is good for my purposes and if i need more i'll just get another, as my XXX is quad coil, so 2500 give or take a few :) !!

I was also thinking about just buying another one as they produce 2500w+ at 2ohms bridged, but mine xxx is 2x2ohm, so I can only wire it at 1 or 4 ohms :S
