Ok, I've decided I'm gonna try and get 2 days of solid car cleaning this weekend in preparation for my drive South the following thursday (then I only have to jetwash it when I'm down there I hope).

Looking at alloy cleaner has anyone used the Maguiars stuff? Was wondering if it's the stuff you just spray on, leave to foam and wash off, so I don't have to worry about when I'm down...

I'm picking up a gallon of wonder wheels on Saturday (should last about 5 years lol) so I'll be taking the wheels off and doing the spare set I have in the garage

I haven't used the Megs stuff...but i have used GUNK wheel cleaner and it is the bees knees! I got it in a tin with a wheel cleaner a sponge and something else. You just spray it on, leave for a wee while and then scrub with the wheel brush! It really is amazing!

I also use Wonder Wheels on really badly stained alloys (and only then). Just be very careful with it as it can strip lacquer from the wheels.

I've lost patience and bought it anyway, might aswell see what it's like. If it's anything like their other products it'll be damn good.

As for the wonder wheels, my alloys are pretty manky at the moment as I've not really got in about them yet. It was an offer I couldn't refuse, I can always share it out with the boys :D

yeah good idea cause I'm pretty much finished mine! Not bad since thats lasted me like 6 years on a normal sized bottle!

refill for £2???

How big are the standard bottles and how much are they?

I've still not got this gear off that fella but I will do at some point.

I was caught in a pinch yesterday morning fo alloy cleaner (as I used virtually all the Maguiares stuff in 1 shot) and found 2 for 1 alloy cleaner in Tescos (£1.98) - it did a remarkably splendid job of making my wheels shiny again :D

hey, ive just recently bought a set of second hand alloys... so they are really bad. i hav went through 3 brushes and 2 tins of wheel cleaner... thats just on 1 wheel, and its still rather dirty. anyone and suggestions of wat to use before i bankrupt myself

That stuff doesn't look very strong, I'd recommend you get hold of wonder wheels or even the tesco gear and get in amongst it with that. I'd then use the Turtlewax stuff as a finisher and for future cleaning.

If you can't get the dirt off with wonder wheel they may need a professional refurb :(

their nice and clean now, a m8 of mine works in a kitchen and they got this expensive cleaning stuff that they use on their ovens... he pinched me a bottle full to try on my wheels. i used it for the inside, amazing is all that can say to describe this stuff. sprayed it on then left for 2min, wiped it... and the dirt was gone! wat would hav took me 2 hours of labour was acomplished in 5mins

That stuff is very similar to wonderwheels - I used to use that kinda gear when I worked in a kitchen, absolutely killed the lungs and once I actually got chemical burns on my stomach from it

Job's a good 'un :D

I got similar stuff once that my mate 'borrowed' from his work - forget what it was called, but used to clean oilfield equipment for the rigs etc.

I've yet to find an effective alloy wheel cleaner, but kinda dont need to at the moment anyway!
