thats the thing which is really confusing me though the power cable runs down the left side and the 3 rca cables down the right, the only place the rca leads and power leads are near each other are in the boot at the amps

all the rca leads iv got are different the new one is the best of the lot and was £21 on its own, iv just tested all possible connections and the wining only happens when the rca leads are connected to both 1/2 channel and 3/4 channel on my 4 channel amp? wonder why

It sounds like the total interferance of the 3 RCA cables is too much for the shielding on each cable. It was OK with 2, but the extra interferance is too much for the cables (if you see what I mean).

yeh i get ya thats the only thing that it could be really aint it!
so what do i do now then to solve this problem would it be worth running it down same side as power cable? or is this a bad idea?

that sounds like it culd be difficult does that mean takin all the carpet up? he only other thing iv been told it might be is that the rca leads are too close to the metal at the back of the headunit however there is no interferance when the engine is turned off iv just found this out so really cinfused now!

That could be due to the alternator. Would an interferance suppressor be of any use?

whats the alternator got to do with it though because if i have the engine running and remove the rca leads and just have one going to the amp it stops! see what i mean confusing aint it lol
thanx for all your help so far

Does the whining increase with the engine revs?

no its a constant whine when the engine is turned on when its off there is nothing at all and when its on there is until i disconnect one set of the rca leads going to the 4 channel amp, this has totally confused me now think i might just take one set out and use y splitters instead

I've got a whine in my car to (that changes with the engine speed.)

After rewiring the wires down different sides of the car, re-seating my earths and buying an interference surpressor, it turns out it's the connector in the back of the stereo that's intermittent!

I always manage to get it to sound perfect, then the actual act of pushing the stereo back in is enough to mess it up again!

Have you tried simply running the engine with the stereo plugged in, but loose, then wiggling the wires to see if it's the stereo's connections that are dodgy?

At the end of the day, it can only be one of a few things-

• dodgy stereo/connection to stereo
• interference along the wiring
• dodgy earths to amp
• dodgy amp

Unless I missed something!
