Yesterday I stumbled across a report on a website, which said that Alfa raced a 147 with the 2.4 litre JTD engine and a 6-speed gearbox in the 24-hour race at the Nurburgring last June. The report said it was fitted with the 150hp 10-valve engine (not the latest 175hp 20-valve Multjet), that it finished first in class and 19th overall (not bad against 911s and M3s).

Does anybody know anything about this car? Is it a standard model in Europe or elsewhere which is just not imported into the UK, is it a prototype which may be sold here in future, or was it just a one-off special?

It would be very interesting if they did sell it here, especially if they dropped in the new 175hp motor!

There is a whole series this year with the 147 JTD. Its been in Auto Italia I think as well.
We tune the 1.9JTD to well over 150bhp, but havent done the 20v 2.4 yet. Actaully if the 2.4 was in a 147 we could take it over 210 bhp and more torque than the GTA!

Re: Re: Alfa 147 JTD 2.4

I was surprised, because in the UK Alfa only offer the 2.4 5-cylinder JTD in the 156 - the 147 has to "make do" with the 1.9 4-cylinder. I think the one-make series is just for the 1.9 model?

As far as I know the Nurburgring 24-hour races are for Group N cars (effectively showroom spec) - this would explain why it only had 150hp (same as the last series 156 as standard). However, if it was to Group N spec, that would mean it couldn't be a one-off special - it would have to be a production car to be eligible?

Like you say Nige, a quick tweak and it would seriously give the GTA a run for it's money (and still give 40+mpg!!). Question is, are they gonna sell it here?
