Hello, I really enjoyed looking through this forum in the past and it has helped me a lot but unfortunatelly I didn't find a solution for my problem:

I left the car over the holidays for about 4 weeks with the alarm on (error -I know). Tonight I wanted to drive, however I couldn't unlock the car with the button on the key. When I unlocked the car directly via key, only the driver door would unlock (no central locking) and as soon as I opened the door the alarm was going - BUT the indicators where not flashing. It says in the manual to turn the key in the ignition to MAR to disable the alarm in case the remote is not working, but nothing happend - alarm kept going, no lights on the dash. I changed the battery in the keys, but still no luck.

I suspect from the fact that central looking does not work and the indicators do not work when the alarm is going of, that the battery of the car is completly dead. The alarm is then probably only powered by the backup battery of the alarm?

Simple question: How do I get my car to work again? New battery? How do I install it without the neighbours killing me?

Thanks alot for your help

Felix

Edit: its a 52 plate JTD with factory alarm

I'd charge the existing battery and see if this solves the problem, you may well need a new battery as 4 weeks is a long time for 7/8 year old battery.

If all else fails i could get ya a diagram of how to remove the alarm fall stop mine aint got one good rid to it just noise

hi,
What you could try also is open the door (alarm goes off) pop the bonnet, connect another battery (like a jump start) this should give you power to activate all the cars systems so you can then disable the alarm (mind you the alarm will be going off the whole time until you get the jump battery connected...how's your neigbours?) you could then also start the car and charge your battery by running the engine...

Hi Guys thanks for the replies.
I've done it the way frogger suggested. Bought a new battery (old one was still the original) prepared the new battery with the jumb leads and then popped the bonnet and connected the jump leads within 30s. I could then turn the alarm of straight away with the keys :)
No further problems, everything working - many thanks for your help (y)

Felix
