Hello

I am very pleased with my new Fiat Marea (well, new to me at least) and it's the nicest car I have owned so far.

There is however some minor problems/annoyances, and one of them beeing the alarm.

It works. And the siren is loud. Accidently made it go off the other day. The remote central locking key works, and the car locks/unlocks very smart and nicely at up to 10 meters away.

Now the problem: Alarm goes active (red diode flashes), the doors lock, BUT there is no "bleep" frn the siren and no flashing of indicator lights.

This is very annoying, as I have no way of telling if the car locked itself and/or if the alarm activated itself if I don't stand close to the car actually watching the diode and doors locking.

Is this a known problem?

I have used search function and a lot of ppl seem to have troubles with the alarms on the Mareas, but none like mine...

How to get indicator lights and siren to audiovisually tell me the car is locked/unlocked?

Thanks,

Tomas

sounds like someone has switched off the indicator and beep function, you can do that using the bonnet pin to select different country setups, i cant remember the method sorry.

Aha, sounds like that has happened yes, as the alarm and locks work perfectly.

Just tell me what a "bonnet pin" is and how it looks like and I'll try to figure it out myself.

Sorry, I'm Swedish and sometimes I just can't follow the lingo...

the bonnet pin is the small switch that the alarm uses so it can detect when the bonnet is opened. if you open the bonnet and look at the driver's side of the slam panel there is a small black pin, thats the bonnet pin.

here's how you set the country code

COUNTRY CODES (number of times to press bonnet pin)
ITALY -1
GERMANY- 2
FRANCE – 3
SW1TZERLAND - 4
UNITED KINGDOM - 5
BELGIUM - 6
HOLLAND –7
EC - 8
Low siren (TURIN) - 9

- with bonnet closed switch ignition key to MAR
- open the bonnet
- turn the ignition key from MAR to STOP:
- within 15 seconds press bonnet pin 7 times quickly.
now you will hear 5 beeps. when the beeps start hold the bonnet pin down.
after the beeps you will hear one long beep. only release the bonnet pin after this long beep, then within 10 seconds press the bonnet pin the number of times for the country you want.

Thanks a bunch! I will try this tomorrow!
I wonder why this is not listed in the users manual.

This forum is awesome. I owe you!
Next time you swing by Sweden, I'll by you a cold one. (y)

TBMonsen: I'm currently facing the same problem as yours, the red light on dash keep on flashing, even when I'm driving. It never goes off eversince the indicator + beep sound disappeared a few days back.

jug: I did try as what you have suggested but to no avail. Perhaps it's because I don't know the country code for Malaysia. Any ideas?

the only country codes i know of are the ones listed, and as far as i kow they are the only codes the alarm can use.

it sounds like you have an alarm fault, disconnect the battery for an hour, if the fault remains you need to get it on an examiner to diagnose the fault.
