Hello,

We have recently purchased a W reg multipla, and we have a found a problem with the remote central locking. It locks, but then 5 seconds later the alarm goes off. We then have to unlock it for it to go off. Any ideas what this could be.

We have noticed the back window wiper is not working either, you can hear the clicking but its not moving, any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Remote central locking issue could be one of the door open switches sticking. Check these are working correctly, later models had these on bonnet and boot as well, not sure about earlier models.
If the rear wiper is clicking, then power is getting through, you'll need to take the motor off and try freeing up the mechanism. If you get if off and can't free it up, then you'll need a scrappie.

after the alarm has gone of and you have unlocked the car, there should be a LED flashing a code on your panel (above the radio) for example 3 flashes-pause 3 flashes and on it goes. this code indicates what system has triggered the alarm. owners manual refers to these codes.
my previous multipla (W reg) had similar issues and ended up being the 'volumetric sensor' in the roof. I disconnected the sensor and fault went away (i think that was 5 flashes)

Check under the bonnet for a switch that closes when the bonnet comes down. If you have this funny looking switch then it's possible that the switch isn't making contact. I posted something about factory fitted alarms about a year ago with pictures.

Rear window wiper

The rear wiper is easy enough to strip down, but I don't think it can be disassembled completely.
There's a cover plate that you can remove to get to the gears and link, but if the spindle is badly seized (as mine is), it's pretty much scrap.
I did manage to free mine off the first time it failed, but it ran a bit slowly afterwards, and eventually stopped altogether.

I'm going to give it one last go soon to see if I can get the spindle out without destroying it, but judging by the burning smell it was giving off when it stopped moving mid-stroke, I'm guessing the motor is shot...(n)
